New Spider-Man Is In The Works But Not A Film Tie-In

During E3 it was revealed that Spider-Man was getting yet another title in the mix but this won’t be a Spider-Man game tied into anything but the general lore

Another one of the huge surprises out of E3 was the announcement of a new Spider-Man game coming into the mix. Maybe not a huge surprise given the agreement between Sony and Marvel for the IP but the bigger one would be that Insomniac Games is doing the building and that it will not be linked into the new film at all. In fact, this Spider-Man title will be a completely standalone title and unsurprisingly available for the PS4 sometime in the future. How long into the future is of course a good question as this is still a working title for the game but it would make sense to use the synergy of the new film; so maybe July of 2017…

Of course as this is just an announcement and a tease for the new Spider-Man title, information for the game is still sparse. Of course over the course of the week it has been announced a few little tidbits have surfaced and extracted. One of which being the fact that the trailer we all we able to see is from in-game footage and not a pre-rendered bit. Of course HUD and context items had been removed, if they are present at all, but so far this Spider-Man game looks like it is something to usher in a new wave of great Marvel video games and they have the developer to do it here.

In terms of other tidbits and nuggets of information on this new Spider-Man it looks like we will be staying a bit more traditional with the IP. While Insomniac Games is pulling from all of the sources out there, this will be a Peter Parker Spidey and he will have the age and experience that fans will know him to have had over the years. Especially in the intelligence department as that seems to have an effect on everything that he will do in the game. That aspect doesn’t have more to go on but the fact that Peter is hyper-intelligent will aid him and give him options in traversal, combat, and other aspects of the game.

We also know that this Spider-Man, like others, will be an open world style game. There will be scenarios that force a path as there is a main narrative to the game but from the looks and sounds of it we will be able to swing around New York and its districts with a level of freedom. This makes complete sense given the character’s history and abilities in the franchise so it isn’t much of a shocker but it is something that is known for the game so it is being included here for you.

In terms of enemies and villains we will encounter in this Spider-Man title things have been kept under wraps. Of course some people have broken down the trailer and images a bit and at least one of the usual suspects will be in the mix in terms of the Osborn family. It can be seen that someone in the family is running for mayor in the video. Also speculation that another villain will be Mister Negative given the masks that some of the bigger goons can be seen wearing in the trailer as well. They look to be the Inner Demons gang which are the henchmen for said villain but that is only speculation for now. Hopefully it won’t be for much longer.
