Rise Of The Tomb Raider Looks More Like A Stealth Game Now

Rise Of The Tomb Raider

New gameplay footage for Rise Of The Tomb Raider was shown at Gamescom and it looks like there will be a whole lot more stealth action than remembered in any Tomb Raider title before

Another non-shocking title to be shown off today for Microsoft‘s press event at Gamescom was Rise Of The Tomb Raider. They are so proud to be getting Crystal Dynamics‘ title to the Xbox 360 and Xbox One first that of course they want to show off all the cool things those gamers will get before the PS4 and PC crowds. Can’t fault them for that. But what was shown does kind of raise a few questions on my end and one of them is if Rise Of The Tomb Raider is going to be more stealth based that it is going to be action/adventure as we’ve seen over almost all of the titles in the past. The gameplay trailer shown for Rise Of The Tomb Raider at Gamescom definitely states the prior for me.

Only a few new tidbits for Rise Of The Tomb Raider were shown off during the press event showing for the game. One of them was the sheer size of the game’s playable space being three times that than the last Tomb Raider titles. That is pretty massive in my book. The second being the new “guerrilla combat” system coming to Rise Of The Tomb Raider. One of the cooler features being that you can now take down multiple enemies with Lara’s new bow in the game making her on par with all of those other badass archers in our fiction, films, and literature. At least she is getting that great upgrade with Rise Of The Tomb Raider.

This new style that Crystal Dynamics has built for Rise Of The Tomb Raider does make the whole game look and feel like a stealth style game on par with Thief and Battlefield Hardline; at least as I played them. I always remembered Lara to be a run and gun better version of Indiana Jones in all of the past titles but here in Rise Of The Tomb Raider she is being forced to go stealth. Is this due to a focus grounding in reality for the franchise now and if so why can’t she be a badass like all the male action stars we have in our games and media? It’s because Rise Of The Tomb Raider isn’t a space marine game isn’t it? Come on Microsoft at least you can admit this right?

Rise Of The Tomb Raider — Gamescom 2015

I’m not going to turn the new Rise Of The Tomb Raider gameplay into a huge gender role bias thing here as that is not my want and I doubt the intentions of Crystal Dynamics. At least I am hoping it isn’t. I’m going to stick with the greater grounding in realism and anyone would want to sneak about instead of being a one human army in Rise Of The Tomb Raider. It’s not like Nathan Drake can do the same thing in his game and not have to rely on sneaking around to better his odds. Damn it. I said I wasn’t going to go there and I just did again. Time to wrap things up and just enjoy what we saw for Rise Of The Tomb Raider.

What do you think about what you saw for Rise Of The Tomb Raider here? Do you like the new look and feel of the stealth mechanics for the game or do you want to go back to Lara having two big guns running around shooting T-Rexes? Do you think that these mechanics are in place because of the reason I mentioned above? Let us know and get the discussion rolling in the comments. Rise Of The Tomb Raider hits the Xbox systems on November 10th so we’ll all see what Crystal Dynamics has in store for us in the coming months. Be sure to stay tuned here so you don’t miss out on any of the great updates and news we will have to bring.
