Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s Athens Will Feel Much Like The Real One

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

New videos for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey have released and give us a view of the Athens of the Assassin’s Creed universe and more naval combat

If there is one thing that Assassin’s Creed has been known for it is the look and feel of the locations. At least after we get past all of the murder, historical stories, and other gameplay aspects we have seen in the past. That still does not change the fact that so far Ubisoft has done a great job capturing the locations and feeling of the era in their settings. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is not going to be any different and now we have further proof that we will be whisked back to Ancient Greece in the game. At least in terms of Athens here, but I am sure it will expand out as we have experienced so far in the franchise.

If you do not fully believe it just yet, have a look at the latest behind the scenes video we have for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey where the team talks just about recapturing Athens as it should have been back when the story takes place. As with all larger, real-world location-based titles the team traveled to the location to make sure they were able to recapture it as well as they could. Not a shocker at all as it is another of the more recognizable locations being used in Assassin’s Creed and humans have taken care to keep it in a decent state of repair for a while now. Nonetheless, have a look at what we have for the location here and get ready to slay in it come this October 5th.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey — How Ubisoft Rebuilt Athens

The Ubisoft Quebec development team discusses how they made ancient Athens one of the most painstaking and detailed locations throughout Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

For those out there who do not get the jollies off looking at locations like this, we have a little more for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey here. We have more of the naval combat that has drawn in so many players since it first debuted in the franchise and has been a major part ever since. There have been a few updates to it all, as we assumed there would be, and those get detailed out here just a bit more. We will be recruiting captains and leaders for our ships now in addition to basic sailors. Combat seems to be shifted a bit to fit the time period. We also will get to dress up our ship just a bit more than we have in the past. Nifty.

You can see all of that in motion just below in the new video for it. There is no word on how often we will need to play out parts of the naval combat in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, but I am going to guess it will be a little more than we did in Origins. At least given all of the seamless talk that they have in the video here, it makes more sense than just during very select scenes.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey — Redesigning Naval Combat For Ancient Greece

Ubisoft Quebec’s Game Director Scott Phillips discusses the updated design and mechanics of naval combat in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

How do you feel they did in recreating Athens in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey as you have seen thus far? Does it look like how you have seen it or is it still swaying toward the more sensationalized side that the entertainment industry generally goes with it? How are you digging the changes to the naval combat we have here and does it make sense to have to force people to sail your ships? Let us have all of those answers and discussion down in the comments. For more on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, be sure to keep checking back in here as we will keep it all coming at you as fast as we can.
