Lose Yourself In The Lands Of SoLA Within Dead Island 2

Dead Island 2

The next story expansion for Dead Island 2 is finally here so we can get more of that Dead Island world-building in the mix

It is time to head back into HelLA in Dead Island 2, as we have the next big expansion for the story dropping out there with new DLC. As long as you are playing the game on the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, or Xbox Series X|S. Those playing on the PC will need to wait until April 22nd to see what Dambuster Studios has added into the game. A weird wait, but one that will give you all a lot more to experience in the world of Dead Island. That goes above and beyond the fun extra story that is in the mix. Let us have a look at what is on the way or already here to download into the game if you are ready to head back out into the nightmare streets.

In this new DLC for Dead Island 2, titled SoLA, we are back in the heart of LA and heading to the biggest music festival that is held out there. At least in this fictional version of the location. A location that also has its own variations of enemies and a few new ones to the game. Thankfully, there will be new weapons we can find or build to take into the various pits out there. Along with more of the fun and over-the-top ways to kill many of the undead in the game with the environment. All of these, I am sure, will lean into the larger narrative of Dead Island 2 and give us hours of new experiences to enjoy while the blood and body parts go flying.

Dead Island 2 — SoLA Launch Trailer

Dead Island 2’s second expansion story – SoLA – is out now on Xbox, PlayStation, and on Epic Game Store and Steam from 22 April 2024.

Set in the heart of LA, SoLA takes players into the ultimate Californian music festival where a psychedelic beat unleashes chaos, turning the mosh pit into a rotting crater of gore and releasing a malevolent presence to haunt the player.

New DLC Content:

  • New Story. A deadly virus sweeps through The Valley, turning its inhabitants into ravenous zombies as a chthonic rhythm calls from beyond: The Beat of the Autophage. Lured to the festival by an enigmatic warning message, players must explore SoLA’s ruins and put a stop to this otherworldly menace.
  • New Location. A visceral, gore-drenched music festival in LA echoing to the sound of The Beat which threatens to turn the living into zombies, and with the potential to be heard across the world.
  • New Enemies. Including the Whipper, a new apex variant enemy, driven mad with self-loathing by the Autophage. Their compulsion to self-mutilate has turned them into a horrific nightmare of disemboweled intestines, allowing them to lash out at range. And the Clotter, an unsettling apex variant, zombie, that can decompose into a revolting pile of gore, making it immune from damage in that form, and then reform elsewhere to continue the fight. Capable of firing a powerful jet of putrid blood from its heart.
  • New Legendary Weapons. Such as the Ripper – a deadly fusion of a baseball bat and circular saw, turning it into a percussive machine of dismemberment – and the Sawblade Launcher, a heavy weapon firing rotary sawblades; the perfect weapon for ranged decapitation and dismemberment.

This makes sense for things in the Dead Island universe as being a location and I am kind of surprised it took so long to get there. Noise does draw in the undead. I am a little iffy on the new enemies with one using a whip for some reason and another being able to shift its form. These do seem to be more of the Apex variants in the world, but it feels a little off outside of it giving us a great gameplay experience. If that is the case and there is no big reason why this is happening in Dead Island, I can get behind that. Just do not force in some story to explain it and just let us have the fun. Just as this IP has always aimed for.

Are you going to head out to SoLA in Dead Island 2 or did you set the game down before the DLC was rolling out? How do you feel about these new enemies in the game and will they add the right levels of gameplay for you? Where do you think we are going to go next in this mad run and will it be another of the happiest places on Earth out there? Wander down to the comments to discuss everything and let the world know your thoughts. There is still more on the way for Dead Island 2, and we will share it all here as soon as we can. Please keep on coming back to see and hear about all of that as it does flow on out there.
