The Nyko Data Bank was shown off at CES 2015 and adds an extra option to the internal storage for the PS4 in the way of 3.5″ Drive
If you’ve thought that only 500GB for your PS4 was a bit on the low side then you may want to keep your eye out for the Nyko Data Bank sometime later this year. The Nyko Data Bank, pictured below, is a nice little add-on for the PS4 that will allow you to swap out the system’s hard drive for a 3.5″ drive as opposed to the 2.5″ that we are currently stuck with. This may not seem like a huge deal to flip out over this $30-$40 (proposed) accessory but have you priced out 2.5″ hard drives lately when it comes to the larger storage sizes? Now you are seeing the crazy benefit that the Nyko Data Bank will bring as well as a few other bells and whistles.
Those other things for the Nyko Data Bank aren’t as impressive but nice little touches. Things like an LED light strip to indicate when the drive is in use and the one-screw install setup that the PS3 made famous before are about it. You wanted that all sensationalized didn’t you? Not here as we just have the facts for the Nyko Data Bank.
I’ll be honest. The Nyko Data Bank does not look to make the PS4’s look any sleeker by any means but I’ll be willing to trade the aesthetic for the cheaper options and larger storage possible with the 3.5″ options. Granted there is still no word on transfer rates and seeing as the 3.5″ kind of eliminates the SSD style of drives that may be something of concern for any out there who want to have a 2TB PS4. With everything going more and more digital and all the free titles for download from PS+ I know I’ll be needing that storage space…as long as there are no slowdowns due to the hardware. Hopefully the Nyko Data Bank will be what we all need to get our PS4 closer to a PC.
