Assassin’s Creed
A new rumor for Assassin’s Creed has popped up and it indicates that there may not be a new installment to the Assassin’s Creed franchise this year as the dev team is ‘revamping’ the game
As the new year has begun there are generally a few things we can look forward to like the yearly release of a new Assassin’s Creed title and rumors abound to get the blood flowing. Looks like this year we may be starting off with more rumor and possibly no new Assassin’s Creed title as this little nugget points to Ubisoft not bringing us another title; at least this year. Aren’t rumors fun? Not really but here’s what we have in way of a new Assassin’s Creed title and just what could be happening this year for the franchise.
Of course heavy doses of salt need to be taken here as all of these new Assassin’s Creed rumors come from an anonymous source over on the 4chan forums indicates that there will not be another major installation to the Assassin’s Creed franchise until 2017. Not only that but it if it is true it looks like Ubisoft is looking to restructure the gameplay for the franchise to fit alongside The Witcher gameplay style. Also that the next bit of story would take place in Egypt. Ancient Egypt at that.
Here is exactly what was said about Assassin’s Creed’s near future and where the franchise could go. Of course if all of these anonymous posts are actually from a developer over at Ubisoft and not just some internet prankster looking for a few minutes of internet fame.
Dev here.
Egypt. There won’t be an AC in 2016.
You may screencap this and refer to it when nothing is shown in E3 2016. You’ll have to wait until 2017 for it.
The reason: It will be a complete revamp of the series. The game is going for a Witcher feel, with player progression, freeform combat system. Horse is back, and boats too. It’s made by the Black Flag team.
You may leave any question you want answered.
While I think it could be nice for Assassin’s Creed to take a break from the yearly releases I just don’t think that is how the business practice of the studio and publisher will work. Sure they could release Assassin’s Creed: Rogue on the PS4 and Xbox One to have some form of Assassin’s Creed out for 2016 if this rumor is true but that just doesn’t seem right to me.
Also, while I find the prospects of the next Assassin’s Creed heading to Egypt the statement about ships coming back in terms of Black Flag doesn’t sit well with me. I’m not saying that it couldn’t work in some way or another given some of the rivers and such but this form of gameplay would take us further away from the Egyptian setting if it was as core as it was in Black Flag Or would we just be sailing the Red Sea or showing how all the crazy artifacts made Jerusalem. That of course would make this a prequel to the franchise which could be cool but doesn’t have the “right” feel to me.
What do you think about these Assassin’s Creed rumors though? Does it sound like this could be true to you or is it someone looking to cause a stir? Would you want to traverse the great desert of Egypt using the mechanics of Assassin’s Creed or would it need to be changed to be along the lines of The Witcher? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. If Ubisoft issues any kind of update on this or anything on future Assassin’s Creed titles we will have it here. Be sure to stay tuned to the site to get all of details as they come out.
