The Last Of Us Part II
The continuation for The Last Of Us has been announced at PSX and it looks like The Last Of Us Part II will be changing a few things up for us in a good way
If you were living under a rock over the weekend or just took a break then you may have missed that The Last Of Us Part II was finally given the announcement that many were hoping for. This would be the sequel to Naughty Dogs critically acclaimed apocalypse game that I’d be surprised to find any gamer who has not heard of it by now. Even with it being a PS3/PS4 exclusive title I am sure that many have heard or watched The Last Of Us on YouTube at the very least. It is a great title with an amazing story mixed right in. If you are still lost do yourself a favor and get caught up then come back for the hype that will ensue.
For the rest of out there, it was announced that The Last Of Us will be getting a direct sequel sometime in the near future and it will continue the story of Ellie and Joel in the harsh aftermath of a huge fungus ending event. It takes place years after the events of the first game as Ellie is now 19 years old; she was 14 when we last saw her in the Left Behind DLC. Ellie will also be our main playable character here and Joel will take the helping side seat. Or at least that would seem the case as he is still a huge role in the game even though the announcement trailer makes it sound like Ellie is going out a lone. I guess we’ll have to wait and see.
The Last Of Us Part II — Reveal Trailer
I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last Of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.
It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last Of Us Part II in the coming months.
Of course at this stage information for The Last Of Us Part II is still few and far but and this is all that we have to go on. Granted it was stated in the PSX panel that in terms of the story the first game was all about love and hope and Part II is going to delve deeper into hate. I’m guessing hate for whoever is being blamed for the ending events of the first game and possibly the DLC but, as I said, those details are still floating out there and nothing concrete has been given to us from Naughty Dog. Well outside of the “Trust us to do right by you” claims that the game’s co-creator has asked during the same panel. Especially since the other half of the duo is taking a break now.
That’s right, Bruce Straley, the other half of the creation team is not coming back for The Last Of Us Part II. He’s earned a sabbatical and it looks like he is taking it from the game. While some may think that casts a shadow on the “Trust Us” plea, it is worth noting that Bruce’s role is being taken up by another writer by the name of Halley Gross. That name may or may not be familiar to you but given that Halley’s recent work was on some of the best episodes of Westworld I think that at least in terms of story we are still on a solid track for the game. Again, we’ll have to wait and see but that is just the way all of this plays out all the time.

Are you excited to see that The Last Of Us is finally getting a full sequel to the game or was it a masterpiece that should have been left alone? How different do you think the game will play as we take it on as an older Ellie; at least compared to what we’ve played with her from before? Do you think that the story is going to suffer or prosper from the change up of writers? Let us know all your thoughts on this down in the comments and feel free to discuss.
