The Sinking City 2

The announcement for The Sinking City 2 is here and we need to get ready for all of the terrors that The Sinking City will bring back to us

Just when you thought you were going to get free of the darkness in the universe out there, we have the announcement that The Sinking City 2 is officially on the way to us all. After all of the hardships that Frogwares had to go through for the IP, they are able to get another one in the works for us. All with the hopes to put the fright back into our minds on the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2025. That is a little bit of a wait for The Sinking City 2, but it is a wait that I am sure many of us fans will happily endure to make sure we have another fun bit of nightmare fuel to enjoy. Now we just need to make sure the Kickstarter succeeds and the game gets all of its funding.

While we are still waiting to see some actual gameplay for The Sinking City 2, we do have a fun trailer to help highlight that the game is coming and that there is going to be a bit of a shift to things in the game. While the original was more of a detective story and game, this new one is going to lean more into combat and exploration while making it more of a survival horror instead. All while expanding on the story that The Sinking City originally kicked off in the first place. Not a terrible plan to go with and from the following trailer, it does look as if the team has been able to recapture all of that terror and add in some other fun things to further highlight what we will be going through, mentally, when the game does finally drop out there. Have a look and let the hype train start on up.

The Sinking City 2 — Announcement

Explore the flooded city of Arkham in this Lovecraftian survival horror. PC, PS5, & Xbox Series.

The Sinking City 2 is a story-rich survival-horror game, set in Lovecraftian 1920s United States. It takes place in the infamous city of Arkham, now plagued by a supernatural flood that has brought decay and Eldritch monsters to its streets.

In The Sinking City 2, you face numerous eldritch abominations in combat, explore a rotting city as the rising waters change the landscape, and discover what dark mysteries brought you to this forsaken place. The game will feature a new, stand-alone story separate from the one told in the original game.

Unlike The Sinking City 1 which was a detective adventure with a horror flavor, the sequel is a full-scale survival horror game with an emphasis on combat and exploration. We are also keeping investigation as an optional mechanic, one that will yield real gameplay benefits if you decide to engage with it!

Game Features:

  • Fight To Survive: Use an arsenal of 1920s-inspired firearms and melee weapons to fight against Eldritch-inspired admonitions.
  • Explore The Decaying City Of Arkham: A semi-open world of decaying mansions, flooded markets, and abandoned hospitals. As you progress the flood waters will rise, changing the layout of locations when you return.
  • Find & Use What You Can: Scrounge for limited resources and balance a finite inventory as you decide what to bring and what to leave behind.
  • Choose To Investigate Further: Solve optional puzzles that let you investigate your surroundings deeper to uncover secrets, alternate options, and more lore.
  • A Twisted Lovecraftian Tale: Experience a morally grey and captivating story set around the Lovecraft mythos of cults, mutant creatures, and incomprehensible gods.

I do have to say that I did enjoy The Sinking City 1 when it came out, but the detective aspect wore me down to a point that it felt like more of a slog than anything fun. That is a personal thing and not anything with how the game was designed. Hearing that The Sinking City 2 is going to be more in line with a survival horror instead, makes it feel as if this is going to be the version of the IP that is going to pull me right back in. I know that the main concepts behind the Lovecraft and Arkham stuff are on the investigation and detective side of the stories, but I do love me some Silent Hill style of gameplay out there. If they are able to hit that proper balance with this one, I think we will not need to see them need to turn to Kickstarter for any of their future games out there. So, here is to hoping it all comes perfectly to light for all of us.

How did you feel about The Sinking City 1 and did you enjoy the detective aspects more than some of us out there? Do you think that the shift to the survival horror aspect will pay off or will it lose some of the core Arkham fans out there? How close to the other survival horror games out there do you think this one will come or will we finally see one of the titles give the genre something truly new to push it all further into the horror aspect? Head into the comment section to discuss all of this and everything else that we have to share for the game out there. We will share all that we can for The Sinking City 2, so please keep on coming back here to see and hear about all of it as we gear up to face our fears one more time.
