Transformers: Earthspark Expedition Puts Bumblebee Back Out There Again

Transformers: Earthspark Expedition

A new Transformers title is on the way to us all again with the announcement for Transformers: Earthspark Expedition

The IP keeps living on as we get another title in the works announced with Transformers: Earthspark Expedition. Yes, it looks like the stories of the Autobots will keep on going as long as possible now with Tessera Studios bringing us all one more into the mix. All to add to the long lineup that Outright Games has for the Transformers IP. Now let us dive into what will be coming to the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC when all is said and done for this one. Maybe it will give us all something we have yet to experience in the story or IP up to now.

Alright, so, Transformers: Earthspark Expedition looks like it is taking us back to the basics when it comes to these kinds of games. We will be playing as Bumblebee, again, as we head out into the action-packed world and explore multiple biomes in the universe. All while driving, running, and smashing Decepticons that are trying to stop us all from completing our tasks. In the usual Transformers way of things and all. Even having us fight with and alongside some of the various other characters from the IP along the way. More or less, it all looks and feels like a basic game that is linked to what the IP has done for decades; make money. Well, make money by just pumping out more of the IP for various fans to consume while not pushing anything forward.

Transformers: Earthspark Expedition — Announcement

Transformers: Earthspark Expedition puts fans behind the wheel of the iconic hero Bumblebee, as he drifts, drives, and fights his way across a new but familiar world. The game aims to faithfully recreate the environment and feel of the ground-breaking animated series, as Bumblebee sets off on his own adventure to face a mysterious threat from his past and stop the series villain Dr. Meridian, aka “Mandroid”, from recovering missing pieces of an ancient technology.

As part of this action-packed journey, players will be able to freely explore three massive biomes and complete quests from their Terran allies, the first Transformers robots to be born on Earth, and new original characters from the TV series. To complete his mission Bumblebee will also fight against and alongside fan-favorite legacy Transformers bots including Optimus Prime, Grimlock, Skullcruncher, Nova Storm, and Skywarp.

Deep levels of exploration and combat reward players for undertaking multiple playthroughs as they unlock a diverse range of upgrades and abilities that allow access to previous locations, and to discover secrets in previously inaccessible areas. Unlock the skills needed to take down Decepticons with spectacular ultimate attacks and customize Bumblebee by selecting a variety of engine energy trails when in vehicle mode.

The game has been designed to be accessible for fans of all ages, with detailed analysis given to different scenarios allowing freedom of exploration, text legibility, control setups, and difficulty curves ensuring it is playable by younger gamers. Variable difficulty options are included that allow the game to be played according to individual ability, alongside mechanics that mitigate frustration in combat, such as directional warnings to help players identify incoming threats more easily. An assisted driving system has also been included which provides an easier control scheme when in vehicle mode, as well as the option to enable an automatic camera so players can focus their full attention on exploring, driving, and battling enemies.

Transformers: Earthspark Expedition will launch in 2023 across Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

All of what I said may feel a bit harsh when looking at this new Transformers game, but after looking at the above announcement, do I seem wrong? The visuals for the game are underwhelming and the basic gameplay looks like it is designed only for the youngest of gamers out there. This is not a bad thing, but this is also targeted at those that grew up in the era of the Transformers too. This feels more like a basic cash grab on the IP instead of anything else. Just as the films and everything else out there for it. Why is it so hard to get something truly new for the line instead of pushing the same stuff over and over hoping that fans do not notice?

Were you hoping to see a bigger Transformers title than what we have here today or does this feel like where the IP is going to forever sit? Could this one be hiding something bigger under it all or do you also feel like it is a cash grab in the current state of things? Would you want to see a truly gritty title in the line or will it only make money by sticking to the cartoony style for kids? Take all of those thoughts down to the comments and then let the world know what is on your mind. If we have more to offer up for Transformers: Earthspark Expedition, we will bring it here on the site for you. Just keep checking in for all of that and more if you would like to see how this all plays out.
