Batman: The Enemy Within’s Final Episode Has A Date & Is Bringing The Joker

Batman: The Enemy Within

The final episode of Batman: The Enemy Within has been dated and it looks like it will have so many branches mixed in to dictate how Batman’s greatest foe will materialize

As if we did not already have big games coming out on March 27th, it looks like the final episode of Batman: The Enemy Within will also be landing on that same day to bring the current story to an end. Given the timing one would think that Telltale Games would have tried for a different day, but it is what it is now. Not that I am complaining as I want to see how all of my choices in Batman: The Enemy Within are going to play out in the grand scheme of it all. I will just have to better schedule all of my time to make sure I can fit it right in with all of the other craziness going on in the world.

An interesting part to this episode of Batman: The Enemy Within is that it looks like it will be three and a half hours of story going down two paths. Paths that will branch all over the pace and ultimately lead us to one end or another. An ending to how John Doe is being built up to where he may become the full-on Joker we know to be the worst of the worst or something different than we have ever seen for the character in all of Batman history. It is things like that which make me love coming back to Telltale’s titles as I do enjoy something new instead of a retelling of a story I have heard many times over. It is what won me over in the first season of the game and has kept me coming back.

Today we are thrilled to share the official release date for the fifth and final episode of Batman: The Enemy Within, the ongoing five-part episodic game series that continues Telltale Games’ unique take on the World’s Greatest Detective. Episode five, ‘Same Stitch,’ launches Tuesday, March 27 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, and mobile.

As the description indicates, the choices players have made over the course of the season will determine which story – and which version of The Joker – they’ll see in the finale. Same Stitch features two totally separate takes on the fully evolved John Doe: one a ruthless villain that hews closer to the classic Clown Prince of Crime and the other an unpredictable vigilante that’s unlike any other portrayal of DC’s iconic character.

In total, Same Stitch contains three and a half hours of content spread across two completely distinct storylines that share, at most, only three overlapping scenes. Each of those storylines includes further conditional variations that reflect players’ earlier choices and make Same Stitch, mathematically, Telltale’s “branchiest” episode ever. With over 4,500 lines of dialogue divided among 38 characters, the overall script for the episode is larger than Christopher Nolan’s entire Dark Knight trilogy.

I do see that it is stated that this episode of Batman: The Enemy Within will be the most “branchiest” of all of their games to date. I am a bit curious about what that exactly means though. It could mean that there are just a lot of dialog choices that will still lead us back to two main endings. It could also mean that we may have way more branches than we did at the end of Season Two of The Walking Dead and lead to a similar issue with getting the story back up and running as we had recently. I know I am hoping for the latter as it will make it feel like the choices mattered, but if they want to keep this Batman story going, it will most likely need to be the prior.

Are you ready for this season of Batman: The Enemy Within to come to an end or will you be just picking it up now that you can play it all in one sitting? How have you been crafting the John Doe relationship and do you think you will still get the tried and true Joker or could you get the new one that is teased? Do you think we will get multiple endings like in The Walking Dead or will it still all end in one easy to pick up from ending? Let us have those thoughts down in the comments and then feel free to discuss. For more on Batman: The Enemy Within and the future of the story, be sure to keep checking in here. We will do what we can to keep you as up to date as possible.
