Star Wars
During London’s Star Wars celebration event we received a few new bits of concept are for the Star Wars Visceral is working for us
We all know that EA is holding onto that Star Wars IP with an iron grip and forcing pretty much all of their development studios to work on the IP in some way or another. One of which would be Visceral Games that we all know for the Dead Space titles and the most recent Battlefield Hardline title; also they are the studio who picked up Amy Hennig of Uncharted fame. Of course it makes sense that they would have them working on another Star Wars addition into the video game world and it looks like we have a bit of an update and some pieces of concept art to work with as we wait and see.
As it all sounds, we may be getting more of a pulp feeling Star Wars title here as Amy Hennig kind of alluded too. What wasn’t hinted at though would be the addition of an original story to the universe as well as new characters, locations, creatures, technology, and all the other things we could fall in love with in a completely new Star Wars title. All fitting into the official cannon story of the universe already set in the films, cartoons, and comics. There is so much going on in the franchise it is a surprise that we can still link it all together in one story. Where are the truly peaceful planets?
The reason [we’re collaborating with Lucasfilm so closely is] we’re writing an original Star Wars story with new characters, locations, tech, creatures, you name it. All of it has to sit authentically alongside the stuff people know now.
The process that I’ve been using is really similar to what I did with Uncharted, to be honest. If you’re trying to re-create that classic pulp action adventure experience, you need to deconstruct the films so you know how to reconstruct them in an interactive context as gameplay.
According to the rest of the talk given at the event it looks like there are some extra clues hidden in the above concept art we have been given. It seems a bit odd to have a completely new story and all of that for Star Wars but have loads of clues and hints in the concept art that true fans can spot but there you have it. That would all read to me that it is still linked into the small section of the franchise’s universe still and will hit on nostalgia for fun. Unless Visceral Games chose to go a horror route with Star Wars and this is just a Dead Space 4 of sorts just using a great writer and fun universe. I can hope.
What do you think about Star Wars getting a slight touch of Uncharted mixed in? Do you think it will be a completely new thing as stated or will it be required to hit on specific aspects of the universe to keep die-hard fans linked in? Do you think it could be a horror title in the franchise? Let us know and feel free to discuss in the comments below. For more on this Star Wars title as it evolves and finally gets named, be sure to stay right here on the site. As we get more we will bring you more and that could be just around the corner.
