Delve Deeper Into Prey With A Lot Of New Gameplay & Abilities

Prey

More gameplay for Prey has been shown off and this time we get to see the new mechanics for Prey as well as how we can harness those damned aliens

We’ve seen a lot of stuff for Prey so far and it is looking like it could shape up to be another killer game from Arkane Studios. It has even posed a lot of interesting questions around the net but mostly it all boils down to what will the game play like outside of the basic first person shooter kind of title. The teasers and announcement trailer for Prey so far haven’t done much on the gameplay side of everything but they have given a whole lot of story. Now we get to flip it all as we have a nice new eight minute video of gameplay where a lot of the game’s details get fleshed out just a bit more. Just what we were all looking for from Bethesda.

As was to be assumed, weapons in Prey are sparse but powerful. Like the Glue Gun that does pretty much what you think it does. Not only does it help with taking down enemies by firing off globs of quick-drying glue, but it will also allow for some different traversals in the game as well as the ability to shut down some of the hazards that will also be plaguing us in the game. I know I would have like to see it to be able to fire off traps as well but I guess I’ll have to settle for what we get as it is pretty cool in general. I’m hoping that the rest of the weapons in the game are just as amazing and useful. I guess we’ll get to see.

In terms of alien powers that we get, as that is a cornerstone of Prey, two of the featured powers are Kinetic Blast and Mimic. Kinetic Blast should be pretty straight forward as it does just what it sounds like; it fires off a power ‘orb’ and then explodes with energy all around that can do damage or help with getting around Talos I. Mimic also does pretty much what it sounds like, but it allows us to turn into anything we see on the ship. It’s used to get through a blocked off location in the video by turning into a coffee mug, but it sounds like we can turn into what we want and then use that to whatever ends we need. I am curious to see how far we can go with that but outside of what was said here and what we see the aliens do, that is all that is known.

Speaking on aliens, they too have the power to look like anything in Prey which will lead to a lot of random shooting in the game as well as some great jump scares. I mean, we get to see a normal looking trash can here lurch forward and attack you out of nowhere because the player opted to not shoot it. Kind of an interesting bit there. Of course they are not alone as it looks like there will be the usual robotic enemies mixed into Prey as well but they look to be just as basic of sentry drones as usual. Nothing as cool as what Arkane Studios has given us in their other titles but still a nice little variety so we aren’t just fighting different classes of alien creatures with the same powers.

Prey — 8 Minutes Of Gameplay

In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station, your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities. Prey is slated for release in 2017 on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

I will say I am not too keen on the crafting system for Prey just yet. I get what the team is going for here but from what has been shown so far it didn’t seem to blend perfectly for me. That and it looks like there will be an easy-ish way to “game the system” as we will have grenades that will literally turn everything around them into craftable goods. I’m sure they will be limited and such but for how long or will they be on the crafting table and then just a bit of math needs to be done so someone can keep churning them out and then all of the other items in the game? Just a thought on my end but maybe it is solved and just not shown here in the gameplay video.

Also, I think it is a nice touch to have the use of powers limited a bit by the fact that they will draw in more enemies in Prey I just didn’t get to see how dangerous it will be in practice here. Of course that would be me asking Bethesda to show more than they wanted for Prey but it seems like something they wanted to highlight and it didn’t seem to do too much in the game. Maybe it is worse after repeated uses and all of that or there are powers that instantly call down hordes if you are not careful with it. All more things we will have to wait and see I guess. Hopefully not too far into 2017 as I know my PS4, Xbox One, or PC needs to have this game running on it.

Now that we have more gameplay for Prey, what are your thoughts? Do you think that we can mimic truly everything in the game or will there be some form of restriction? Do you think that this was just a small taste of what will happen if we abuse our alien powers or will this be the full extent? Let us know all your thoughts on this down in the comments and feel free to discuss. For more on Prey as it gets released, be sure to stay right here. We’ll keep all of those updates flowing on out as they are released into the wilds…
