DOOM
The release date for DOOM has been set and we also have a nice, new collector’s edition for DOOM to try and get us to drop even more money on the game
The wait is almost over for DOOM, or at least in sight, as we now have a solid release date for the game and it is May 13th 2016. Looks like id Software has finally made it to a place in the development process where they feel they can dictate when DOOM hits the PS4, Xbox One, and PC without worry of having to delay. Now mostly everything rests on Bethesda‘s shoulders to make sure we all know about DOOM and what to expect in this title even though the franchise has been around for over two decades. Hopefully you have a grasp on it so far.
If you don’t (where have you been living?) then rest assured that we have a new trailer for DOOM that gives you a bit more of the feel that the game as gone in the development process. It’s a fast-paced shooter filled with all kinds of devils and demons for you to slaughter in the vein of saving the world. DOOM did kind of define the shooter genre back in the day, or at least helped, so you really shouldn’t need more unless you think that Call Of Duty started it all. Then you need a solid lesson before May hits us.
DOOM — Campaign Trailer
As is usual, along with a release date announcement we also have the listings for DOOM‘s new collector’s edition and pre-order bonuses for those who are now overly excited to get the game. At first glance it does look like it is a very basic collector’s edition for DOOM but that is until you read into what the 12″ statue of the Revenant actually is. It isn’t just a statue but also has LEDs to give it an eerie lighting effect as well as the base having moving parts based on id Software‘s UAC facility from DOOM. So a bit more than a statue for the same basic $119.99 USD price one would expect.
Then there are the basic pre-order bonuses for DOOM if you pick up either the CE or just the game early. By basic I mean it is full of in-game skins and perks that is the usual fare for developers who are trying to get a full game out first and not a partial game with the need for DLC. At least that is how I hope DOOM comes across based on all of this and we are not just rused as usual. You can have a look for yourself just below on what all of this will entail in more detail though.
Bethesda also revealed plans to release a premium collector’s edition of DOOM that will be available across the globe through participating retailers. The limited DOOM collector’s edition, created in conjunction with TriForce, includes an exclusive, fully-realized 12” tall collector’s statue of one of the game’s most iconic demons: the Revenant. Modelled from actual in-game 3D files and striking in appearance, the demonic Revenant stands on an LED-lit base with internal, slow-spinning turbine from the UAC facility on Mars. The DOOM collector’s edition also includes a copy of the game packaged in an exclusive, battle-worthy metal case.
The DOOM collector’s edition is available for pre-order through participating retailers and is priced at $119.99 (US), €129.99 (Europe), and £99.99 (UK). Players pre-ordering the DOOM collector’s edition or the standard edition of the game will receive the Demon Multiplayer Pack which contains a unique demon armour set with three skin variations, six metallic paint colours and three id Software logo patterns that can be applied to weapons and armour, plus a set of six Hack Modules – one-time consumable items that can give you an edge in a multiplayer match.
How excited are you to get DOOM in the next few months now? Do you think that the CE and pre-order bonuses are top of the line or a bit lacking for the price point? Do you think we will have a slew of DLC that comes out post DOOM‘s launch or will it all focus on features already in the game getting expanded? Let us know what you think and discuss away in the comments below. As we get further details on DOOM out of the mouths of Bethesda we will have the updates here. Be sure to stick around and keep reading on the site so you don’t miss a thing.
