Disney Infinity 3.0
While At E3 I Was Able To See Disney Infinity 3.0 In A More Intimate Setting Than Just The Trailer. Here’s My Take On It
One of the big splashes in the gaming industry has always been Star Wars and Disney Infinity 3.0 was on the scene to do just that as the other titles in the franchise. The big difference here is that it is able to strong-arm all levels of Star Wars fandom as it also mixes in all of the other IPs Disney Interactive can get their hands on from the parent company. When all is said and done though Ninja Theory is focusing on trying to make Disney Infinity 3.0 another great installment while playing on the nostalgia of the fans. Thankfully though with Disney Infinity 3.0 they are also presenting said franchise in a way to get fans old and young excited or introduced to the amazingness of Star Wars this year when it launches on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC.
As you have seen, or can see, Disney Infinity 3.0 is going to include all of your favorite characters from the Star Wars franchises. From the original trilogy to the newer ones to the cartoons to the future shows and films that have yet to be released. Most of which were on the scene to give a try with for Disney Infinity 3.0. Each with their own moves, force powers where applicable, and tech abilities where applicable. I say where applicable because Chewbacca shouldn’t be force pushing and Han Solo should be shooting first and not with lightsabers. Needless to say, but I am going to say it, all of the fan favorites are included in Disney Infinity 3.0 as well as the ability to use all of your older toys in the Toy Box mode. Not sure why they would ever think about deviating from the scheme with Disney Infinity 3.0 or any future installments but you can rest assured things won’t be just trash now.
What was a bit concerning for Disney Infinity 3.0 is how the controller was mapped to the characters in the game. In this manner as lightsabers are the melee weapons you are still forced to press the Triangle or Y buttons to swing the blades. It just feels a bit unnatural to press that button to do the quick attacks given the characters in Disney Infinity 3.0. Square or ‘X’ feels much better and it is a bit of a learning curve based off what we have all learned from most other games that have the lit up blades. The button layout of course is the same that is in every other Disney Infinity title out there but until now it felt right for the characters as their primary weapons were usually some form of ranged affair and you would want to mash the button for it and ignore the close up melee attacks. Hopefully we get an option to remap but as of now there is no word on that.
Moving past the unnatural controller scheme though all of the new gameplay for Disney Infinity 3.0 greatly added to the tried and true we have come to enjoy. Personally I found the new “on rails” flight missions, this includes the one to blow up the Death Star, a really good time. About as much fun as when we all saw it happen in the films for the first time kind of fun; only you get to be Luke Skywalker in this case even though the character I was personally playing as was Yoda. All kinds of madness here with Disney Infinity 3.0 but it is the best kind of madness. I even had to resist swapping in Darth Vader to pilot during the scene where Darth Vader shows up to shoot you down. Take away from this that Disney Infinity 3.0 puts you right in the mix of all of the Toy Box fun we all had when we were much younger.
I wish I would have more time with some of the other new features for Disney Infinity 3.0 but E3 is not the best place to get all the time in the world. Some of the other new gameplay features that came in were some LittleBigPlanet-like levels designed around all of the events of Disney’s Inside Out. Also there were new Toy Box level expansions that ranged from dungeon crawlers to a kart racing style game where ALL of your Disney Infinity characters can hop in and enjoy. These are extra purchases to expand into but they add a whole new experience that you don’t have to build yourself. You have the pros over at Ninja Theory and the other Disney Infinity developers doing it for you so you don’t have to pretend to be a designer and just enjoy the games as they are presented. Especially the kart racing game…
Sadly there was no solid release date given for Disney Infinity 3.0 as of yet but as we are all fans of the franchise over here you can expect to see that updated as well as any new toys and gameplay as we loom closer to said date.
