South Park: The Fractured But Whole
While at E3 I was able to see South Park: The Fractured But Whole in a more intimate setting than just a trailer. Here’s my take on South Park: The Fractured But Whole
This has been marked down as one of my most anticipated titles of E3 and I was able to go behind the curtain and see South Park: The Fractured But Whole as they wanted to show us. Of course this being Ubisoft there was all the glamour mixed around it all to make everything more impressive than their little black room for the last title in the franchise. It looks like they get that South Park is something that is going to help rake in plenty of money and they are taking care of it. That is why we got to see the presentation of the new stuff for the game in the Coon’s lair while being assured that the game is truly coming on December 6th for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. All with a digital copy of The Stick Of Truth for said platform if you pre-order the game early.
All the hustle and bustle aside we were brought into the back room to see what the team had brought us for South Park and we were instead treated with a little show and museum instead. The museum housing all of the gear that you have seen the characters from the show actually wear in a physical form and the show being an over the top performance of a curator explaining everything. Everything and just how we all had reached the time and location that the game is taking place in. This is where I assumed we would get to see just how some of the new mechanics worked as well as the other changes that are inevitable for the game.
Sadly though, this was not the case. We received the exact same explanation that the team from South Park and Ubisoft had just song and danced us at the beginning of E3. In fact the “Actor” and people in charge of the area couldn’t offer up anything outside of “Watch The Video.” That all said, I won’t bore you with all of those details as you can see everything in action and explained better than I received just down in the videos. There was at least one little tidbit that was added though but I’ll save that for after the videos.

So the only addition to the basics explained in the above videos would be that South Park: The Fractured But Whole will also have another super hero added into the mix in terms of Captain Diabetes. Fans familiar with the show will know the character and he looks like he will have the same powers as the Incredible Hulk. Only his strength and rage comes from a high blood sugar and go away with ample doses of insulin. Not as informative as I was expecting but that is what Ubisoft wanted us to walk away with outside of their big stage show.
It is worth noting that it does look like we are having and ATB system of sorts when it comes to South Park‘s combat as can be spied in the “Time Travel” portion of the above videos. It also looks like we will have a few extra fart moves to perform while wandering about town but none of that was explained further than you can see in the videos. I wish we had more but we just don’t as they are keeping tight lipped over there unless you are considered “preferred media” as I heard their representatives say multiple times while on the show floor.
I am glad to see that all of the characters and events from the show will be making some form of appearance in South Park: The Fractured But Whole all the way up to before the new season. Given that the team has begun planning things out in a bit of advance it would be interesting to see if parts from the new season will make it into this game even if just Easter Eggs. The South Park team has always tried to stay as current and up to date as possible and that is something almost never seen in a video game. If anyone could figure out how to do it it would be them. I just hope we get to see it this time around. Even if it is a reference to an episode that is only a few months old by December 6th.
