A new title, Escape From Playtime, is on the way to us all as we learn just how we are going to Escape From Playtime
As if Poppy Playtime had not already terrified us all so much already, here we go with the big reveal of Escape From Playtime. A new spin-off title from the larger story that Mob Entertainment has been dealing out to us for a while now, but in a way that might make some of the terror a little bit easier to handle. It could also end up making things worse, as Escape From Playtime is not just another of the walking stealth games that we’ve had already. No, this is a new co-op online experience that is going to task us all with just what the title says. We are going to need to make an escape from Playtime Co. and try to make certain that all of our friends are on the up and up as we do so.
In this version of the IP, we will be playing as one of the Smiling Critters in the middle of the Playtime Co factory. All with the same goal to Escape From Playtime Co. Something that does sound like it would be fairly easy, especially as we’ll be able to do all of this with up to three other friends in the mix. Along the way, we’ll need to scavenge a few things, solve a few puzzles, hide from the bigger creatures stalking the world, and make certain that our friends are not going to leave us behind as they also are trying to Escape From Playtime. That is where the true terror of the game could seep in, as we’ll never know until it is too late if they have turned on us as The Voice carries on, or if we’re all working towards the same goal. A fun little twist that will also expand out the main IP’s lore a bit more. Though, I’ll most likely be going in solo for all of that, and then only have to worry if the bots are out to get me more than those terrible humans.
Escape From Playtime — Reveal
Mob Entertainment, the studio behind the hit horror franchise Poppy Playtime, revealed Escape From Playtime, a new 1-4 player online co-op game that sends players back into the infamous Playtime Co. factory from the perspective of the cute-yet-disturbing Smiling Critters. Tasked with scavenging materials for a mysterious building project that promises escape from the factory, players will need to work together and follow instructions from an ominous voice lurking somewhere in the shadows, all while evading the factory’s most dangerous denizens.
Escape From Playtime is a co-op survival horror game set deep inside the abandoned Playtime Co. factory. Players take on the roles of the Smiling Critters, the dead-eyed toy line with gaping smiles first introduced in Poppy Playtime: Chapter 3, and explore classrooms, warehouses, testing labs, and the dark corridors connecting them all.
Played solo or with up to three other players, each run sends teams into a dynamically changing section of the facility to find and transport resources for a mysterious Voice. The materials are needed to help build a promised home for toys who prove their loyalty and usefulness. Simple enough, except the factory is filled with rejected Playtime Co. creations stalking the halls. Players will need to search quickly, choose when to split up or stick together, and know when it is time to retreat.
Along the way, players can solve puzzles, uncover clues, scavenge tools, use hiding spots and alternate routes, and turn the factory layout to their advantage. Proximity voice chat adds another risk: communication is essential, but an irresponsible whisper can bring the mission to a brutal end.
As runs are completed, Escape From Playtime reveals a deeper connection to the larger Poppy Playtime story. The Voice promises freedom and a home, but its motives remain unclear. Every resource gathered feeds into something bigger. You are helping build something, but what, and why?
Key Features:
- Critter Co-Op: Play solo or team up with up to 3 friends in a fight for survival inside Playtime Co. More Critters means more ground covered and more chances for something to go horribly wrong, all enabled with proximity voice chat.
- The Voice: A mysterious Voice sends players into the facility to collect scattered parts and resources. Gather what you need, bring it back safely, and try not to ask too loudly who or what you are really working for.
- Scavenge To Survive: Use whatever the factory gives you to stay alive. Search for tools, uncover clues, find hiding spots, create distractions, and use alternate routes to outmaneuver the rejected Playtime Co. creations stalking the halls.
- Mini Mode: Crawl, jump, and climb through every nook and cranny of the Playtime Co. factory as a Smiling Critter and experience some of the most iconic Poppy Playtime locations through a new (smaller) set of eyes.
- Familiar And New: It’s Playtime Co. as you know it, with a twist. The mysterious Voice seems to be altering the factory’s layout, creating procedurally generated environments that change with each run.
