Fallout 4
While details are still sparse, it looks like Fallout 4 is getting a season pass for its DLC so we can keep playing Fallout 4 into the end of days
With Fallout 4 still months out from launch it seems like a good time to start talking about DLC and updates right? Nothing like getting the updates on all the little extra add-ons to a game before it is actually finished being developed right? Bethesda thinks so and so now we have the first bit of details on Fallout 4 future updates, tools, and a Season Pass for all of the DLC that will pumped out afterward to our PS4, Xbox One, or PC version of the game. Nothing makes us feel great about a game like Fallout 4 than knowing that we are going to have to pay more to make sure we have the full experience of the game in advance. Gods I hate DLC before game launches.
To be fair, I guess, some of these new updates and “DLC” for Fallout 4 are being stated as being free in the way of regular upgrades to the game. Much like Bethesda has done before it looks like Fallout 4 will be getting tweaks and new features added in post-launch and these will be free for anyone who happens to own the game. There are no details as to what but it sounds like Fallout 4 is going to get the Skyrim treatment when it comes to these forms of updates and features. So, our first little bonus there for Fallout 4 and the fact that it is free adds on a little bit extra. Winning me back now…
It also looks like Bethesda is keeping to the modding roots as Fallout 4 will also be getting modding tools designed after the same tools used to build the game. Of course this will be for the PC version first as it is easier to port that on out but it looks like the team over there are also looking to get these Fallout 4 modding tools out for the PS4 and Xbox One as well. I’m guessing a ways down the line but at least those fans won’t be left out in the lurch on that. Now if only they will be made cross-platform for Fallout 4 then I will be completely impressed but as of now this is all we have to go on for the modding tools that are coming.
Lastly, and this is the one that bugs me, it looks like people looking to get the full Fallout 4 experience can drop an extra $30 USD to pick up a Season Pass for all the DLC that Bethesda will ever pump out for the game. As of right now there are no plans or announced bits of DLC for Fallout 4 but at least you can secure it with the thought that they want to hit the levels of Skyrim, Fallout 3, and Oblivion so we may see about $40 USD worth of DLC for Fallout 4 hit during its lifecycle. Kind of odd to make the promise now but have no clue if you can fully deliver but hey, for $30 more you can make sure you never miss out on a paid-DLC drop for Fallout 4.
Regular Updates
We’ll be doing regular free updates to the game, and like Skyrim, these will come with not just fixes, but new features. For Skyrim we added things like mounted combat, legendary mode, kill cams, visual enhancements and more. We’ll work with all of you to figure out what new things you’d love to see added to Fallout 4, whether they are small tweaks or new features.
Mods & Creation Kit
The most important thing in our games is the freedom you have to create your own experience, and modding is a big part of that. Like all our previous games, we’ve made sure to keep Fallout 4 open and moddable at every step in development. Early next year we’ll release for free the new Creation Kit for the PC. This is the same tool we use in the studio. You’ll be able to create your own mods and share them with others. We’re especially excited these same mods will then be coming to Xbox One, and then PlayStation 4.
Downloadable Content
We’ve always done a lot of DLC for our games. We love making them and you always ask us for more. To reward our most loyal fans, this time we’ll be offering a Season Pass that will get you all of the Fallout 4 DLC we ever do for just $30. Since we’re still hard at work on the game, we don’t know what the actual DLC will be yet, but it will start coming early next year. Based on what we did for Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Skyrim, we know that it will be worth at least $40, and if we do more, you’ll get it all with the Season Pass.
What do you think may be in the works for DLC for Fallout 4? Is it concerning to you that they are already looking to add things in via DLC and the game still has a few months of development left? Are you secretly hoping for more free updates instead of getting the $40 worth of DLC in Fallout 4 that Bethesda has claimed above? Let us know in the comments and discuss away. If there are any further updates for Fallout 4‘s DLC and Season Pass we will have them right here so be sure to keep checking in so you are not left out in the wastelands of ignorance. And we offer them all for free…
