Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy fans will have to wait a bit longer now to get their hands on the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI
The end of the year news does not seem to be going out on a high note, as we sadly have a new delay for Final Fantasy XVI. Not that we had much for the game before now since Square Enix first announced it, but now we are going to have to wait another six months to add it to the list of PS5 games we have. I can already hear the collective Final Fantasy fanbase cry out in pain for it all. More so when you find out that it is all linked to the struggles everyone has been having due to the pandemic safety concerns. Yes, this is another one that is being hit by all of this and we have another half a year to see where this IP is going with things.
All of this came about the official announcement from the producer for Final Fantasy XVI and social media. All to explain why we have not heard anything for the game as promised before the end of 2021. Now it all makes a bit more sense and also has a slight silver lining to it all. That being that we will be hearing and seeing some official updates for Final Fantasy XVI and the other titles in the works sometime during the Spring of 2022. That is still quite a few months out and very vague, but it is something to cling to as we see yet another giant get pushed back by the ongoing events of the world. Final Fantasy XVI — Awakening
Greetings everyone
When last we spoke, I promised I would have more information on Final Fantasy XVI sometime later in 2021. However, I regret to inform you that I will be unable to keep that promise as complications stemming from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has delayed the game’s development by almost a half year.
As the latest addition to the Final Fantasy series being developed for the PlayStation 5, Final Fantasy XVI has amassed a sizable team composed of talented creators from around the world. However, in an effort to offset the effects of COVID-19, we’ve had to decentralize that workforce by permitting staff to tackle their assignments from home. This has unfortunately hampered communication from the Tokyo office, which, in turn, has led to delays in — or in extreme cases, cancellations of — asset deliveries from our outsource partners.
That said, we have spent much of 2021 addressing this issue, and hope to see its impact to a minimum by the new year, allowing us to better focus on the tasks at hand: increasing graphic resource quality, refining combat mechanics, fleshing out individual battles, putting the finishing touches on cutscenes, and conducting overall graphical optimization. Our primary goal now is to be as hands-on with the game as possible in order to see it fully polished.
So that leaves us with the question, when can we expect the next round of information? Well, I am happy to announce the current plan is to conduct our next big reveal in Spring of 2022 as we seek to build excitement leading up to the game’s eventual release.
I deeply apologize to all those who have been looking forward to learning more about Final Fantasy XVI, and thank you for your continued patience while we focus our combined efforts on development.

Were you expecting to hear about this delay for Final Fantasy XVI given the timeline or were you holding out hope for a better announcement this week?
