Go Back In Time With New Gameplay For Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey

A plethora of new gameplay is here for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey so you can see just how the game has evolved to the Ancestors we have now

Finally we have some of the first real gameplay to look at here for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey all fresh from The Game Awards. Sure, we have had some nice little teases from Panache Digital Games in the past with some screenshots, but that is not true gameplay. Given that this is a huge deviation of gameplay style for the creative director of some Assassin’s Creed, there is a lot riding on Ancestors before it hits the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. In terms of reputation more than anything as this is a deviation from what we know. Like the fact that it is a survival style game with almost no HUD or map to help us along the way.

We will first start with the latest gameplay for Ancestors that was given to us in a nice little taste. It shows off some of the basic movement around the game’s world, but also some of the environments we will be heading into when we dive deeper into the game. Pretty much every aspect of Africa that you can think of is here and ready for us and our tribe to go out and survive. Ancestors is all about how humans came into existence over the millions of years of evolution from the first primates. Have a sample of what the game will hold for us and then we will carry on into some deeper gameplay that has popped up out there.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey — Gameplay Reveal

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is a third-person open-world survival game where you Explore, Expand, and Evolve to advance your clan to the next generation in this exhilarating new adventure from the creator of Assassin’s Creed.

Embark on the most incredible odyssey known to humankind: human evolution. Spanning from 10 million to 2 million years ago, begin your journey, “Before Us,” in the Neogene period Africa. Explore a beautiful yet ruthless world, from swinging through tree branches in the jungle to stalking prey across the golden savannah grasslands. Decide what attributes to learn and hone in order to pass down knowledge to future generations, from crafting tools to enhancing evasive tactics against predators. Just like real life, make sure to eat, drink, and sleep to stay alive and have the energy to face any danger that may come your way.

Grow your clan and find strength in numbers as you progress through critical evolutionary stages of human evolution. Your choices will write your clan’s story and determine if you can survive your evolution.

While this is a nice little taste for Ancestors, I know more of us out there want to see just what the game will entail when we dive in. On top of the third-person open-world survival part, it looks like we will also be the de facto leader of our tribe and in charge of carrying on the progeny. There will be a fear system in the game to help dictate through environment instead of HUD what the character is experiencing and the areas we have traveled to so far. In the following gameplay, you will see as new foods and areas cause a fear effect around the item or location until we test it out and dictate things are safe. We can then tell our tribe things are safe or move along for later.

This new gameplay does show off more of Ancestors than we have seen so far as well as a little tease on how we will evolve the character through a skill tree set up. How we unlock these things are not really defined by Panache Digital Games just yet, but we can see the flow of it all now. Not only that but just how we will handle the environment as well as predators in the game’s world. Have a look and then expect to see more for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey in the near future. At least that would be the assumption.

How are you feeling about Ancestors here after getting our first real gameplay to take in? Did you expect it to be a solid survival game or did you think that we were going to get something a bit different from the developer? How are you feeling about have little to no HUD in the game and the use of environmental cues to dictate what is needed? Let everyone out there know what you are thinking down in the comments and then discuss. When we have more to share for Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, we will share it all here. I have a feeling that will be sooner and not later, but just stick close to the site so you can see it all.
