Gwent: The Witcher Card Game

New details on Gwent: The Witcher Card Game’s player progression system have been revealed and it looks like players who can’t play Gwent non-stop won’t be penalized too much

The closed beta for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is fully underway and has been for some time. Maybe you made it in or maybe you didn’t. Either way that doesn’t mean that there aren’t some sweet card battles going on and that CD Projekt RED isn’t taking all of the feedback given to help make this title the best version it can be. I personally thought that what we had in the original mini-game of Gwent was amazing but this full version is adding on a lot of extras to make it more than just a card game and something we all want to keep progressing through at the end of the day. It wouldn’t be a great multiplayer game if it didn’t do that.

For those who have yet to be able to give this version of Gwent a play and experience how the player progression system will work out, we have a new developer video that explains all of that for you. As it turns out here we are looking at a system that aims to not penalize players who have a busy real life and can’t play non-stop. That is, each day there will be four tiers for players to progress through and each will have their own bonuses to offer up. In this system though it will be the lower tiers that offer up more so no one is left behind and the higher tiers that still give bonuses, just not as many. It does sound like it could penalize great players in the long run but there is something in place for that.

It also seems that CD Projekt RED has included in a Good Game reward for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Just as in many other multiplayer games, you will be given the chance to congratulate winners or praise the loser of the match with the traditional “good game.” Only in this case it will grant that player a few extra items to use and progress through. All of this is in an attempt to help promote a positive game experience in the long run and also keep sportsmanship at a high instead of the usual low that we get with multiplayer game. We can all agree this is something needed in general and I hope it is successful and not abused.

Gwent: The Witcher Card Game — Player Progression Explained

We’ve received a lot of questions regarding player progression in Gwent: The Witcher Card Game. Marcin Momot (Community Lead) and Jason Slama GWENT (Lead Programmer) sat down and explained in detail how our current reward system works.

How does the progression system for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game sound to you? Do you think that this will help promote casual players to keep coming back or will it keep the hardcore player only going until the hit the tier that limits them for the day? Do you think that the “Good Game” feature will do what it is intended to do or will someone find a way to abuse it so we lose it? Let us know your thoughts on it all down in the comments and feel free to discuss as you feel. As more on Gwent is shown off or reveals, we will have it here so be sure to stay right here as we’ll keep the updates coming as we get them all.
