Have An Alternate History Lesson On Prey’s TranStar Corporation

Prey

Another video for Prey has been released and this one gives us all a little background on Prey’s alternate history we’ll experience

We’ve seen a bit of the story for Prey already and of course we all knew that there would be more to it all. I mean, Arkane Studios needed to give us a better reason to be on the space craft other than “just cause.” There is already another game titled that anyways. Well, as it looks, we do have more on the story of Prey as Bethesda has brought us a new animated short that goes through the paces of the alternate history that will lead to the game’s events. Talos just wasn’t there to be discovered. It is there because it was put there with meaning…

Below you can see the full video but as it goes it looks like back in the day the Russians have some weird thing pop up on an orbital satellite. They run into issues and beg the US government to help out. They do and then do what the government seems to do best; slow things down and fuck them up. To come in and clean up things we have TranStar and they have a plan to turn a buck with the Typhon entities; and they do. The only issue is that something else has gone wrong in that process and then, BAM, we have the game of Prey.

That’s the nutshell version of it all with my own flavor though. You can see the better-defined version of Prey‘s alternate history in the following video and description below. Then sit back and wait for Arkane Studios to wrap up development on the game in 2017 so we can play it on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. I know I’m waiting now.

Prey — The History Of TranStar

In the alternate future of Prey, President Kennedy survives the assassination, which sets off a turn of events leading to the central conflict. After recovering from the attempt on his life, Kennedy threw his nation further into the space race by taking control of a U.S./Russian joint program and transforming a Russian satellite into a fully functional R&D facility meant to study non-terrestrials. This facility later became Talos I, a highly advanced space station owned by the TranStar Corporation.

In the few years since TranStar took over, the station has been used as the testing ground for some morally dubious experiments, with people on board serving as subjects – people like Morgan Yu. After awakening on Talos I, Morgan finds the station overrun by a previously contained non-terrestrial entity called Typhon, which the scientists had been studying and using to improve the scope of human abilities. Aided by strange alien-based powers, Morgan must survive the incursion, uncover the mysteries surrounding the Typhon and save humanity from the impending danger aboard the station.

What do you think about the history we have here for Prey? Do you think any of this will come into play in the game proper or will it be little hidden things we spot throughout the game? Do you think that we are going to see more things like this to define out the story a bit more or will this be it? Let us know your thoughts and feelings down in the comments. As with all things Prey here, be sure to stick right here as we’ll keep bringing you all the fun updates that we can get out of Bethesda as we get closer to launch.
