Head Back Into The World Of Portal With Aperture Desk Job

Aperture Desk Job

A new tech demo, Aperture Desk Job, is coming to let you see how a desk job will feel in the world of Portal

It looks as if Valve is back at it, and not just with the launch of the Steam Deck, and we are getting a new experience with Aperture Desk Job. As the name alludes, it is a new gaming bit that takes place in the same mindset of Portal. Specifically, and as the name suggests, as someone with a desk job at Aperture Science. All of which being something that we can experience on our PC and specifically the new Steam Deck on March 1st. There are definitely reasons that things have all been presented in this way before you start thinking it is a whole new title in the Portal line.

Even though the name of Aperture Desk Job would make some of us assume that it is a new title in the line, this is more of a tech demo to help show off the new system in a fun way. Think along the lines of a title like Astor’s Playroom but for the Steam Deck. It is a new and fun way to get used to all of the features of the system and maybe a few things behind the scenes in the game universe. Aperture Desk Job could be, hopefully, signaling that we could be seeing something bigger down the line, but that is just a hope from a huge fan. Have a look at what will be coming with this free experience just a bit lower down.

Aperture Desk Job — Trailer

Introducing Aperture Desk Job — a free playable short made for Valve’s new Steam Deck, set in the universe of the modestly popular Portal games.

Aperture Desk Job reimagines the been-there-done-that genre of walking simulators and puts them in the lightning-spanked, endorphin-gorged world of sitting still behind things.

You play as an entry-level nobody on their first day at work — your heart full of hope and your legs full of dreams, eager to climb that corporate ladder. But life’s got other plans, and they all involve chairs.

Playable on the Steam Deck, Aperture Desk Job walks you through the handheld’s controls and features, while not being nearly as boring as that sounds.

Have you always wondered what a desk job at Aperture could entail or is this something you need to know about now? How do you think it will build upon the tech in the system and highlight it all? Do you think this could signal that we are going to have more in the Portal line or will it just be like the company bringing out the mascot without anything beyond that? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all if you wish. If there is more to Aperture Desk Job than we thought, we will share more here. Please keep checking back in for all of that and much more.
