Narcosis
New screenshots and video for Narcosis have been released giving us all a taste of what the game is all about
Before we dig into the new visuals for Narcosis let’s break down what the game is all about…like the Hokey Pokey. Narcosis is a “survival story set in the hostile depths of the Pacific Ocean.” Pretty much you take the role of an industrial diver who is stranded in the depths of the ocean after some kind of accident and you need to get to the surface before your oxygen – and sanity – give out. That was lifted right from the Narcosis site though and not me paraphrasing or (un)sensationalizing the copy at all.
A bit more on the background of Narcosis is that it started out as a student project at ENJMIN in Angouleme, France and it made some noise. After said noise the people behind it banded together more and became Honor Code, the developer, to keep working on bringing their Unity3D title to fruition. Man this is a lot of history lesson though so let’s move on to what we get to see for Narcosis now.

From the previous screenshots of Narcosis we can see that it is going to be a dark and claustrophobic adventure through the deep areas of the Pacific Ocean. I am kind of curious if there is going to be some kind of communication system or if the game will be a lot of heavy breathing and random water noises. Both could be beneficial for the game in the end depending on how Honor Code wants to tell the story. I just wish that there was more than just walking around the ocean floor and pipelines for us to sink our eyes into so we could get even more excited for the Q3 2015 release for Narcosis.
Narcosis — A Taste
I will have my eye firmly on Narcosis to see how the development continues and hopefully succeeds. The general premise doesn’t sound all too intense as it does look to be more of a “walk here and hear the protagonist’s thoughts” kind of narrative but the visuals added to the mix could make this just as intense of a game as being stranded for real. It would also be interesting to see if Narcosis received any Oculus or other VR additions too as that would make this style of game completely killer.
Then again, being in a similar boat as Honor Code started out with I can completely understand if all the really cool bells and whistles were set aside just to get Narcosis out. Either way it is off to a great start in my eyes.
