Horizon Zero Dawn
During a recent stream for Horizon Zero Dawn the developers walked us through some of the game as well as Horizon Zero Dawn’s new photo mode
It was brought up recently that Horizon Zero Dawn was going to be getting a photo mode mixed into the game so players could immortalize some of the best scenes in the game and show them off to the world. That was pretty much all that was said about it back then but recently Guerrilla Games hosted a live stream where more of the game was shown off but one of the big highlights was this new photo mode. Maybe you saw it or maybe you skipped it so you could go into Horizon Zero Dawn as fresh as possible. In a world where it is easy to spoil something it makes sense to go into a media blackout when a game is only a few short weeks out from launch. February 28th is almost here and the excitement has been building.
Well, for those who want to see the new photo mode for Horizon Zero Dawn but not spoil anything more than a HUD and minor location in the game, you can see it all in action just below. There you can see how the photo mode runs the same as many others in the past but also mixes in a few updates and changes to raise the in-game shot game even higher. Of course all this does is freeze the game world where it is and gives us a free camera tethered to Aloy, but there are a plethora of options to get the lighting and mode just right. You can even change the time of day for the shot if you happen to be in an area of Horizon Zero Dawn that would look better at night but happens to be bright and sunny at the moment. Of course this only does the change for the shot and everything goes back at the end.
Horizon Zero Dawn — Photo Mode Developer Walkthrough
Change the field of view, hide the UI, and rotate the camera in basically any way you want. You can also tweak the aperture, adjust brightness, and remove main character Aloy if you want. Additionally, you can change the time of day for any particular scene.
I’ll be honest that I am enjoying the fact that more games are getting a photo mode like Horizon Zero Dawn and hope we soon move to a future mode with video. I’m not saying I want to see the mode go away but could you imagine if we were given a mode here that allowed us to set a small scene and let it play out? It would be a lot like we were a member of Guerrilla Games and designing a small action scene to share with the world. We’ll have to settle for what we have now but it could easily be where the industry is going and I wouldn’t be surprised if the next title after Horizon Zero Dawn could have something along those lines mixed in. This could just be wishful thinking though as we have so many streaming options but not all of us are that savvy with that.
What are your thoughts on this new photo mode for Horizon Zero Dawn? Do you like the new features mixed in here or will it be ignored by you mostly just to experience and enjoy the game? Do you think that we could ever get a video mode where we can set up some define actions in the area and let them play out in a loop? Let us know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss. As more for Horizon Zero Dawn is shown off or defined, we will have it here for you. Be sure to keep checking in as we will be continuing our coverage up and through the official release and you won’t want to miss out.
