South Park: The Fractured But Whole
In the wake of E3 we are still getting South Park: The Fractured But Whole details and this time it is just how the guys from South Park are taking the comedy a bit serious
It sounds extremely weird and funny to hear that South Park: The Fractured But Whole is trying to take comedy seriously given the jokes about just that in the past. Of course we have to look past all of that as all of this comes from a recent interview about the game from some of the team out of Ubisoft. That and the fact that in terms of this South Park game this whole new revelation is in terms of the genre and not the specific jokes as the comedy genre in video games is on the light side. At least that is until this one comes out on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on December 6th.
If you are a bit confused on where I am getting all of this then you may want to take a look on over at the PlayStation Blog where a full interview was conducted with one of the senior producers on South Park: The Fractured But Whole. In the interview it is broken down that as a genre comedy doesn’t have a strong showing in video games. This is something that the team of developers and writers are taking seriously as they want to help it grow and open up other doors. Let’s be honest here too, there really are not many titles that focus completely on comedy and those that do are usually really dumb humor that only work for a lower common denominator.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole — E3 2016
“Comedy games definitely have room for growth. One of the things that we’ve discovered is that you can really make people think with a comedy game because you’re able to subvert their expectations. Even the typical way they might do things on a PlayStation controller: we say ‘Pull the triggers and start rotating the analog sticks’ and then they see on screen that the kid is moving his butt around.”
Of course this wouldn’t be that big of news given how the team over at South Park and Ubisoft are rolling here unless there were a few extra little tidbits mixed. Like the fact that The Fractured But Whole is aiming for anywhere between an eight to twelve-hour gameplay range. We will be able to play as a female character, with the boys mocking us the whole time in their usual humor way. Also that Ubisoft will be taming things down just enough in the game so that there will hopefully be no editing or censorship for any country out there unlike the last title. Although that sounds like they are already censoring themselves to me but we can take that however.
How do you feel about South Park: The Fractured But Whole taking the comedy genre a bit more serious than before? Are you glad or sad to see that the team is aiming for a non-censored version of the game to hit worldwide? Are you glad or sad to see that the gameplay will last just as long as it did before? Let us know and feel free to discuss in the comments below. For all things South Park: The Fractured But Whole keep yourself locked into the site here. It is firmly on our radar and we will be bringing you everything that we con on the game as it comes. You don’t want to miss out.
