Resident Evil
It has just been announced that we will be getting Resident Evil on the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. We’re talking the original Resident Evil here
Just in case you may have missed out on the original Resident Evil the umpteen times it has been given the HD remastered feel, we are getting a new version of the game for the PS3, PS4, XB1, 360, and PC. Pretty much all of the platforms that were left out when the latest Resident Evil HD remaster came out for the Wii and then some. None the less it looks like Capcom is going to try and get the franchise back up into swing again using the HD ploy for all of us old gamers who wanted the newer version and all of those younger gamers who may have missed out on this PS1 gem.
According to the press release we can look forward to full 1080p visuals and 5.1 surround sound to go along with all of the little things added to the original Resident Evil for the Wii release. There also looks to be a new bit of tech being used to allow us to change the display from 4:3 ratio to 16:9 ratio and have the camera pan the area in real-time to adjust for the character’s position on the screen. That sounds like about it for the new upgrades for this version, well outside of the obvious Trophy/Achievement support that is required by the other consoles it is now coming too.
I do find it quite interesting that Capcom is slating this version of Resident Evil for Early 2015 as well. You know, because that other title from Shinji Mikami that is supposed to be bringing horror back to its roots is launching just before then. You know, The Evil Within. What are the odds? Hmm… Why would that have been planned that way? There is obviously no correlation that Capcom would be bringing his Resident Evil game out around the same time that Bethesda is bringing out his new title. Would there be? Just be careful when you go in to purchase your copy of The Evil Within when you say “Hey, give me that Shinji Mikami game that just released good sir/ma’am.”
Joking aside, I will most definitely be picking up Resident Evil‘s new HD remake for my PS4 none the less. It may hit the back log for a bit but I know I can’t pass up a great looking version of the game that started my love for survival horror. I do wish that Capcom would have just gone the Resident Evil 7 path here but hopefully this is just a cash grab with nostalgia to fund a new game for the franchise. We’ll see.
