Minecraft: Story Mode
It is official that Minecraft: Story Mode is getting a seond season and it will be bringing back a few of the Minecraft community members with it
It seemed like it was “iffy” to me that Minecraft: Story Mode was going to be getting a full second season for fans to enjoy, all based on the eight episode season the first had, but as it looks there will be a season two. Today Telltale Games has announced that it is teaming up with Mojang again and bringing the episodic adventure back to carry on the adventures of Jesse in their own crafted world. Not only did they announce it, but Minecraft: Story Mode second season will be hitting the PS4, Xbox One, PC, and mobile devices on July 11th with the first episode. Not a long wait at all for those looking to dive back in.
What is interesting to read here for this season of Minecraft: Story Mode is that it will be picking up after the five-part version of the story after the Wither Storm is handled. Not only that, but it will also house all of the voices we knew from before and will bring back some of those community members from YouTube that have become famous for playing Minecraft for the world. This seems like an odd choice given that the other three episodes that took place after the Wither Storm events kind of are needed as long as we don’t want to question why things are the way they are at the start of this new season. It just seems off to me, but maybe Telltale has something really big planned and such.
Minecraft: Story Mode — Season 2 continues Jesse’s saga in a five-part, narrative-driven, episodic game series developed by Telltale Games in collaboration with Mojang and members of the Minecraft community. Though players’ choices from the first season will carry over into season two, this new season will be accessible to both returning fans and newcomers alike. This second season will also include Telltale’s unique multiplayer ‘Crowd Play’ feature, which allows friends and family to engage with the adventure together by helping to decide the direction of the story from any mobile device with an online connection.
Now that Jesse and the gang have vanquished the Wither Storm, saved the world, and become totally super famous heroes, life has gotten a bit more…complicated. With more responsibilities and less time for adventure, old friendships have started to fade — at least until Jesse’s hand gets stuck in a creepy gauntlet that belongs to an ancient underwater temple. Together with old pals and new comrades alike, Jesse embarks on a brand new journey filled with tough choices, good times, and at least one temperamental llama.
This season will feature voice work from Patton Oswalt, Catherine Taber, Ashley Johnson, and Scott Porter, as well as cameos from Stampy Cat, stacyplays, and other personalities from the Minecraft community on YouTube. Additional casting details for the season are yet to be announced.
If you’ve followed along with all of our reviews for Minecraft: Story Mode from before then you may know that I was not the biggest fan of this whole story line and game. This could be due to the fact that I’m not a huge fan of Minecraft in general, but it seemed like they took a few easy ways out to get a story out there before. Seeing as Telltale is adding in some of the features that made some of their other titles amazing, like the Crowd Play, maybe they are “doubling down” on it all to make the second season the one that will get everyone in on the fun. Myself included here. We’ll have to wait and see though…
Did you expect there to be a second season of Minecraft: Story Mode or is this a complete shock given the other IPs that they have to pull from and continue with? Do you think it is the right choice to ignore all of the events of the last three episodes of season one or will they get worked in somehow? Do you think that the inclusion of Crowd Play will give us all that extra little bonus here? Let us know what you are thinking down in the comments and then discuss.
