Paragon
Paragon is heading to an early access stage and players can give Paragon or pay to make sure they keep all of their progress when the game fully launches
The beta for Paragon is still going strong but it looks like there is a need for more players to access and help shape the game into what they want. Due to the latter there is looks like Epic Games is now taking Paragon into and ‘Early Access’ state where players will be able to pay to gain access but the bonus being that they won’t lose anything when all is said and done. That and they will gain a whole lot of little extras to show off that they helped make this the MOBA to play on the PC and PS4.
To better define all of that above, those whole pay for the Founder’s Pack will gain access to Paragon on March 18th in its current state. They will get to play and give feedback on the game and then when it is ready to go gold they will get to keep all of their progress they have made so far. Read that as your account won’t get wiped before the full release of the game so levels and cards collected will still be there to give you that edge over all of the new players coming in.
On top of that you will receive a bunch of skins, boosts, and other cosmetic items in the game and get to test ride all of the new heroes as they come out. Of course this all sounds like a pay-to-win set up but Epic Games has also come out to say that isn’t the game they are building here. All heroes will be free and all cards will need to be earned during gameplay. You will only be spending your hard earned cash on cosmetic items that don’t alter the gameplay for you at all. Or alter it for the other players you are going up against.
Why Early Access and Founder’s Packs?
Paragon is still in development. The game is missing features, and some of the content is placeholder. We don’t yet have a lot of features to make it easier to understand for new players, and some systems (for example: cards and deck building) require a lot of patience.
Yet, we really want gamers to be able to opt-in and be here with us from the start, to give feedback and help shape the game. As a way of saying thanks, we’re trying to make Founder’s Packs an insanely good value. If you’re interested in Paragon, buying a Founder’s Pack will get you in-game content at a huge discount from normal prices. During the Early Access Season, we’ll release new (free!) Heroes every three weeks, hold community events, and offer daily and weekly rewards.
Founder’s Packs will cost $19.99, and include access to the game, skins, boosts, and other cosmetic items you can unlock by playing. Challenger Packs ($59.99) and Master Packs ($99.99) will include a huge number of skins, unlockable items, boosts, a unique skin, and a Founder’s Pack to give to a friend. We’ll be sharing complete details soon.
It is hard for me to understand why this would be enticing to so many as the ‘Early Access’ thing just never fits with me but I am sure there are many out there that are ready to jump on board. I always see this kind of thing as an extra funding option to games and not really allowing the players to truly shape Paragon in the end. If you gave players that ability in all honesty it would lead to a very unbalanced game as every player is looking for their edge and not the true balance. Not saying there aren’t players like that but they are few and far between.
Enough from me though. How do you feel about Paragon going into Early Access and all that jazz? Do you think that this will generate more people trying to ‘game’ the system early on without the threat of account wipe? Do you see this as a great way to get true fans involved in building the final game? Let us know and discuss away in the comments below. For more on Paragon and other titles like it be sure to stick around as we will bring you all you can handle right here on the site.
