It looks like Respawn Entertainment is working on a new VR game but do not hold out for it to be one of Respawn’s current IPs with a VR twist
It looks like 2019 could be a huge year for all of you whom happen to be fans of Respawn Entertainment and the good work they do. I am sure you have heard of the titles Call Of Duty, Star Wars, and Titanfall so it would be hard to imagine someone reading this who has yet to find one of their titles they enjoy. Nonetheless, it looks like Respawn is heading into a new world of video games here and joining others out there who opted to team up with Oculus to bring us all some new VR content. Like some major VR content from their studio that will aim to further blur reality and virtual reality for us. You know, because humans have not done that enough yet without the technology. I jest…but not really…
Anyways, Respawn has thrown their hat in now and have already started working on a new VR title that will NOT be part of the Star Wars or Titanfall franchises. At least if we take the word from the Director over there who made such claims. Seeing as this is an announcement of intent (that is a thing right?), there is not much more to go with other than that the team at Respawn is already diving in. The video rather alludes to some form of shooter and military simulator, but everyone is still very hush-hush on what is going on. Maybe they were tapped to make the next Call Of Duty and give it a VR aspect. I am sure we will hear all about it next year when they have something of substance to show us all.
Respawn Entertainment — Steps Into VR
A Letter From Peter
While the game remains secret (spoiler: it’s not Titanfall or Star Wars), our relationship with Oculus is now out in the open. We couldn’t be happier to have such a great partner and to be building our game on such an amazing platform as the Rift.
There are so many cool parts to making a game in VR, but perhaps the most intense one is emotion. While you know you’re wearing a headset, your brain processes VR on an emotional level. Though you’re in a simulation, you feel like you’re there. It’s all kinds of awesome.
So as a developer, game assets you’ve seen a hundred times on a monitor suddenly become real when you put the headset on. The sense of scale, the sense of presence, there’s nothing else like it. It’s the difference between using your mouse to rotate an object in an editor and walking around it in real life. It is a true privilege to build a game in this kind of immersive world.

Are you excited to see what Respawn Entertainment could be bringing us or will it be another addition to the platform that will flutter by unnoticed? Do you think it could be something in one of their other established IPs or will it be something completely original? Do you agree it sounds like it could be a military shooter/trainer in the VR setting or is that all fluff for the video here? Let us know all of those thoughts down in the comments and then discuss. When we learn more for Respawn‘s VR IP, we will have it here for you. Check in often so you can catch the update when it does finally come.
