Rumors Are Spreading That A Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster Is Coming

Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster

New rumors are out there that a Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster is coming to the PS4 and it will house the first three Spyro titles in it

It is time to add another rumor to the mill as it has been reported that a Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster is in the works and we could get the full announcement from Activision as soon as March of this year. If the rumor is true, it could be sooner than later, but that is when it is “reported” as getting the announcement with a Q3 or September of 2018 release. All of that and that Vicarious Visions is working on this remaster right now for the PS4. You know, because we all want a remaster instead of a full-blown new Spyro game instead. These publishers know best, right?

The Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster also has the claim that it will bring us the first three titles in the franchise and that it will have the same treatment done to it as the Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy had so it would not just be able to run on the newer hardware, but would actually be rebuilt to give us a version of the game that is worthy of the remaster title. That is at least the rumor as it stands from Kotaku UK’s “multiple sources.” All of which point to the release being part of the 20th anniversary of Spyro The Dragon originally coming out. That would be a nice thing, but still rumors at this point.

The rumors do not stop there though. Along with Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster getting the announcement and release thing, it looks like the PS4 exclusivity would only be a temporary thing. That and that would extend out to the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy as it is also reported that there is only a one year deal for the exclusive rights on the PS4 for both titles. So everyone else out there could see the latest Crash title sometime this year and then the Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster sometime in 2019. Of course, this is all in the instance that these rumors are actually true and not something made up for viewership.

Spyro Trilogy Remaster Coming To PS4 This Year

According to multiple sources familiar with the project, Activision is currently working on a Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster, which will be announced in March 2018 and released in Q3 2018.

The trilogy remaster will, much like the highly successful Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, feature new assets, lighting, animations and cinematics, as well as a remastered soundtrack. It will also feature updates to the save feature, much like occurred in the Crash Remaster (which replaced the original games’ password feature with something much more user friendly). The remaster will include Spyro The Dragon, Ripto’s Rage!, and Year Of The Dragon, and there is the tantalising promise of some content cut from the original releases of those games.

The Spyro remaster will be announced for PS4, with PS4 Pro support, sometime in March 2018, and will be releasing in Q3 2018. One source suggested that September would be the launch month, which would be in line with Spyro The Dragon‘s 20th anniversary.

While this detail will not be part of the announcement in March, the game will be a one-year timed exclusive for PS4, before being ported to other systems in 2019. Apparently, the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is tied to similar one year exclusivity window, so expect to see multiple ports of that in 2018.

Spyro the Dragon Trilogy Remastered is currently under development by Vicarious Visions, the same studio who handled Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy. Given the bandicoot’s success, this release makes a lot of sense – soon enough we’ll see whether the dinky purple dragon is remembered quite as fondly.

What are your thoughts on the rumors Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster that we have here? Does it make sense for them to make it given the anniversary coming up or is it all bupkis? Do you think that the timed exclusivity aspect is true in any of this or just another thing to make it all sound legitimate? Let us and the world know down in the comments and then discuss. If the Spyro The Dragon Trilogy Remaster does turn out to be true, we will have all the updates for you on the site here as usual. Just keep checking back in to see where it is all going.
