Saga Takes On More Horrors In The Gameplay For Alan Wake 2

Alan Wake 2

Full gameplay for Alan Wake 2 has debuted and it gives us more of a look at another protagonist in Alan Wake 2

We had the tease before with some gameplay for Alan Wake 2 after the announcement, and it was there. It was short, but there. Most likely due to the fact that Remedy Entertainment was holding on to it all to show off at the Summer Game Fest bit we just recently had. This is where we all had the treat of seeing some “raw” and “unedited” gameplay footage for Alan Wake 2. Some gameplay footage that shows off a bit more of Saga Anderson in the game with how she will be building it up when it launches on October 17th for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Given that she is one of the story protagonists here, it makes sense wot see more.

The info about Saga and how she will tie into the bigger story of things of Alan Wake 2 have been out there already on the site, so what I want to dig into here is this new gameplay we have. It looks fun. It looks intense. It looks like we will have the light and dark mechanics. It is also not as “raw” and “unedited as they are leading us to believe. Not a slight on Remedy at all as they have always put out top-notch work and I did not expect less from Alan Wake 2, but this is where it feels like the marketing and specific narratives to get you to buy games without a solid filter is going to start to come in. What you are about to see is not truly raw footage.

Alan Wake 2 — Saga Anderson Gameplay

A string of ritualistic murders have brought FBI agent and profiler Saga Anderson and her partner and fellow agent Alex Casey to the small town of Bright Falls in the Pacific Northwest.

The gameplay in this video takes place early in the game. Saga’s investigation has turned into a nightmare after finding pages of a horror story that start to come true, perhaps written by a certain missing writer.

The nightmare becomes real as Saga finds herself at Cauldron Lake, outside of Bright Falls, trying to track down and stop the murder victim who has come back from the dead and turned into a monster.

This gameplay clip was shown for the first time at Summer Game Fest, in June 2023.

Alan Wake 2 comes out October 17th, 2023 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via the Epic Games Store.

Now that you have had a chance to have your mind blown by Alan Wake 2 and the new gameplay, let us talk about the buzzwords used that most of us cannot verify. Sure, it could have been captured raw and unedited but tell me it does not look scripted or rehearsed here. All to show off the best aspects of the game and not played the way most of us will ever play it. The player snaps and pans the light around for the best effect, but we all know how it works in Alan Wake games. We will be frantic and pick up everything we see in the world. The buzzwords used here are to make you think there is not an chicanery going on and given how most of the smaller press outlets are not given access to verify, we all have to take their word for it.

I have no doubt that Alan Wake 2 is going to look and function just as well as we see here. The concern is this feels like it is priming by others so that when we see something like this play out, we expect every other title out there to play out the same way. Thus making it more likely to have games that look great in a presentation to slip out and be trash that we waste money on. This is why this all needs to be taken with a grain of salt and seen as just part of the hype train to sell Alan Wake more. A great IP, but one that we would have normally had a chance to put our hands on with, and now cannot due to the larger outlets cornering the market. This feels like the first step and they are using a great IP to start the obfuscation out there.

Do you like this being called “raw” and “unedited” when it is clearly still the team showing off Alan Wake in the best way and not how many of us will experience it? Do you think this will start a different cycle out there with them using a great game to start us thinking it will always be this way or am I overthinking things? How hard do you think the rest of the game is going to be if this was just how we have to take down one cultist in the game? Take to the comment section and then feel free to discuss it all as we always do. There is more for Alan Wake 2 on the way to us all, so please keep checking in here for that. Also to see how much more of the marketing is being used to sell you instead of truly raw gameplay capture.
