Scorn Offers Up Some Bloody Dark Gameplay To Haunt Us With

Scorn

New gameplay for Scorn is here with a long fourteen-minute look at how Scorn will have us managing so much

It has been a good minute since we last had anything major out there for Scorn and now feels like the perfect time for that. It is a horror title and given the proximity to Halloween here it seems like the perfect time for Ebb Software to remind us of the game. Well, that and to give us some new footage to look at for Scorn so we can keep mentally ready for it to hit the PC and Xbox Series X next year. That is why we are here again, as we have fourteen minutes of gameplay to take in and be horrified with some of the body horror and creepiness that the game will offer up when we all dive right into it.

If you are afraid of having anything spoiled for Scorn before going in, it is worth noting that none of the following video really has much in the way of context. It is more to highlight how “living” the world we will be in is going to feel and how some of the gameplay mechanics will lend to that to make sure the horror is truly elevated. Things like extremely limited ammo and having all of the true tactile feel for the character in the world coming across. Given that we have to use our gun to work some of the machines in Scorn, that can lead to some truly suspenseful moments if a monster is chasing us. That and even when the character places their fingers in other machines, there is a feeling of dread that they might not all be coming back out.

Scorn — Gameplay

Scorn is an atmospheric first-person horror adventure game set in a nightmarish universe of odd forms and somber tapestry.

It is designed around the idea of “being thrown into the world”. Isolated and lost inside this dream-like world, you will explore different interconnected regions in a non-linear fashion. The unsettling environment is a character itself.

Every location contains its own theme (story), puzzles, and characters that are integral in creating a cohesive world. Throughout the game, you will open up new areas, acquire different skill sets, weapons, various items, and try to comprehend the sights presented to you.

Key Features

  • Cohesive “Lived-In” WorldScorn takes place in an open-ended world with different interconnected regions. Each region is a maze-like structure with various rooms and paths to discover. All the storytelling happens in-game, with no cut-scenes to distract you from the grisly reality of the living, breathing world you’re in. But keep your eyes open—the game won’t show you any sympathy if you miss something important on your uneasy travels. Everything has a reason and purpose – you just need to work out what it is.
  • Full Body Awareness – Players will experience better immersion being aware of the character’s body and movement. Interaction with the world is realistic – objects are picked up with your hands (instead of just floating in midair), machines and instruments are operated by grabbing the controls, etc.
  • Inventory And Ammo Management – Is defined and limited. It plays a big role in keeping the player in an even greater state of awareness throughout the whole game. Players will have to think about when to fight and when to take cover and how their actions affect the world around them. Different play styles will be needed to advance.

Was this the reminder you needed for Scorn or would you rather wait until you can get more context in it for you? Do you think it will be difficult to manage all of the reloading and gate opening based on what we see here or will it make more sense if we play it from the start? How many monsters will we need to just run from or could we go through the whole game with “bullets” flying everywhere? Let us know what you think down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all. If there is more for Scorn, we will obviously have it up on the site for you. Just be sure to keep checking it all out as we get closer to a release date for the game.
