Shadwen Adds A Twist To The Stealth Game & Heading To Console Now

A new stealth-action title, Shadwen, is heading to consoles and Shadwen adds a new element into the traditional stealth games we know and love

If you are in the market for another Stealth-Action title then it looks like Shadwen is going to show up and try to deliver on your needs. At least I am certain that is the hopes of Frozenbyte who happens to be developing the game and bringing it to our PCs and PS4s sometime in May this year. At least that is the current schedule for Shadwen as it sounds like some of the trickier stuff in terms of game mechanics could cause some kind of issue if they are not handled just perfectly. Game mechanics that are your usual fare in stealth-action titles.

To start things off, in Shadwen you can’t be seen at any time or the game is over. Usually in stealth-action games when the stealth fails you that would be when the action kicks in but I guess that isn’t the full case here. You will be playing an assassin trying to murder the king of the lands so it makes a bit of sense that if you get caught you are done. Or if the orphan you pick up along the way gets spotted you are done as well. I hope this isn’t one big escort missions in a disguise here. Those don’t usually play out so well.

Now it may seem a bit odd to have Shadwen focus solely around not being seen but from the sounds of it that isn’t going to be as tricky as thought. One of the game’s mechanics happens to be that time doesn’t move forward unless the characters are actively moving. The trailer doesn’t show that too well. Also it looks like we will also have power over time in Shadwen so we can reverse it if we made the wrong choice or are just about to be spotted buy the guards. Another mechanic not really shown here but Frozenbyte has stated it is in there.

Another option of course here is that we can just kill everything in our path as if everyone is dead there is no one to spot you. This plays into another mechanic in Shadwen that aims to change the overall narrative based on your choices. You have the option to not kill a single person in the game if you so choose and all of that will have some kind of an affect outside of making it more likely to get to the game over spoken of before. I’ll assume that non-lethal is going to be the hardest way to play here.
