Signs Are Pointing To No PSX In The US For 2018

A recent interview has dropped the bomb that this year’s PSX will not happen, but for a reason to make us look for next year’s PSX

Sad news for those looking forward to this year’s PlayStation Experience, or PSX, as it looks like it will not be happening this year. At least in the United States. All of which being stated by Shawn Layden (PlayStation Worldwide Studios Chairman) on the latest PlayStation Blogcast. Although, given what was said, we cannot truly fault the company as the main reason for losing PSX this year is that they do not have enough to show off this year to necessitate a full PSX to happen. I mean, they did drop most of their huge titles this year and even though there are others to come, the numbers do seem to be on the lower side. At least for now.

This also points to the fact that we are going to have to wait for other huge titles like Days Gone, Dreams, and The Last Of Us Part II as they would have seemed perfect to show off for PSX this year. My guess is that there will also not be much to look at around December this year for these titles too. Or at least anything that could not be shown off in a trailer or small video form. It makes sense, but this also alludes to the lack of third-party titles that usually fill in those gaps. Even those that are not console specific have made the showcase in the past, but my guess is that when they are spending the big bucks for a PSX they want their first-party titles to be the draw and not everyone else.

For the sake of passing along all of the information, here is the small bite from the podcast where Layden talks about PSX this year. At least in terms of the United States specifically. There is no word on if this will affect other locations around the globe. Time will tell…

We won’t have [PSX] in the States this year. The reasons behind that really are we don’t have… we have a lot of progress that we’re making on our games. Now that we have Spider-Man out the door, we’re looking down into 2019 games like Dreams and Days Gone.

But we wouldn’t have enough to bring people all together in some location North America to have that event. We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on that. It was a hard decision, but we have determined that this year we will not hold PSX.

Are you let down by the fact that there will be no PSX this year? Do you think that these are the main reasons for the “cancelation” of the event or do you think there are other things at work too? Do you think we will get any new information on these larger titles before next year or does this point to a lack of information until well after when the PlayStation Experience should have taken place? Let us know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss. For more news and updates around PSX in general, be sure to keep coming back here. We will keep you as well informed as we can.
