During the Microsoft Build Developer Conference Square Enix showed of their Witch Chapter 0 to show the power of DirectX 12
There is no doubt that Square Enix has always been on the leading side of computer graphics and rendering in the gaming world but with their most recent tech demo Witch Chapter 0 [cry] they were able to show off where we can expect to see our next games to go from them. During the Microsoft Build Developer Conference this week showed off said tech demo to show how DirectX 12 can be used to do some truly amazing things visually. In the case of their Witch Chapter 0 [cry] demo it showed how we could get some of the best real-time CG rendering that has been able to pull off a damn impressive CG version of someone crying.
Yes, you read that. As if you couldn’t get the idea of that from a name like Witch Chapter 0 [cry] but none the less Square Enix has been able to bring us one of the best looks at a fully CG character portraying this human emotion in a pretty realistic way. You really just need to see the demo below to see what I am talking about but none the less this has me excited for where not only Square can go with this but so many other companies once they get their hands on the tools and have free reign to do what they want. Until then we have the Witch Chapter 0 [cry] demo to see the possibilities.
Witch Chapter 0 [cry] — Luminous Engine
I see this and think of where Final Fantasy and Square’s other IPs can go from here. Witch Chapter 0 [cry] looks like it is lifted right from the most recent one in development but I am sure that it isn’t. None the less that is saying something for where we are and where we can be in short time. Of course this required a NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan X-4-way SLI PC to pull off but it is only time until that becomes the standard for all of our home PCs and the next-next gen consoles right? If anything it will make the CGI rendering process extremely easier to use for those in the industry.
After seeing this tech/art demo above are you impressed with what they did for the Witch Chapter 0 [cry] demo? Too good to be true? Do you think that these level of PCs and hardware will become the standard soon so we can all look back and say “Gods those graphics in the Witch Chapter 0 [cry] demo were pretty shitty now that I look at them again?” I’m talking years from now there. Let us know though. Down in the comments. You know where that is now.
