Assassin’s Creed
The rumors about Assassin’s Creed not getting an installment this year have been confirmed as the Assassin’s Creed team informs us all it will be for the best
It looks like those Assassin’s Creed rumors from earlier in the year have been confirmed and we will NOT be seeing a new addition to the franchise until 2017 at the earliest. That’s correct. Ubisoft has opted to not bring a new Assassin’s Creed title out this year for “re-examining” of the franchise to try and make it bigger and better as we press on further into the future. What that truly means is up to anyone to speculate and ponder upon outside of the Assassin’s Creed team who knows what is truly going on with the franchise. At least we can hope that is the case.
This news cropped up on the official Ubisoft blogs where the Assassin’s Creed posted a nice little explanation on things they learned and things they need to look at. They also threw out there that if you really need an Assassin’s Creed fix we will be getting the feature film starring Michael Fassbender on December 21st this year. So I guess the headline should read that we won’t get a new playable Assassin’s Creed title until 2017 at the earliest. At least we all have the past ones to keep us occupied I guess.
This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.
While it wasn’t announced officially on the Ubisoft site, in the mix of all of this Assassin’s Creed news it does look like while that franchise is off the books for the fiscal year it does pave the way for Watch Dogs 2 as it is list to be out before the close of the fiscal year. So before April 2017. My guess is that the Assassin’s Creed team was needed to hop over and make the other sequel even better and this lead to one being placed on the back burner. Again, who knows for certain besides everyone directly involved with everything. Either way we are getting a new addition to a huge franchise of theirs.
How do you feel about Assassin’s Creed getting a break from the annual releases? Do you think that this will completely help the franchise or allow them to try a full reboot of sorts? Do you think that the other part of the Assassin’s Creed rumor is true and it will be heading back to ancient Egypt for the setting? Let us know and discuss away in the comments below. As we get new and updates out of Ubisoft on the Assassin’s Creed franchise we will update you here. Be sure to keep searching the site for more as it all comes.
