The Max Payne IP Is Getting A Full Remake To Keep Things Alive

Max Payne

Max Payne and Max Payne 2 are getting a full remake to bring the character and IP back to us all once more

The rumors and speculation have been proven true with the Max Payne games getting a full remake out here now. It has been an IP that has brought so many out there enjoyment and pushed genres a bit more than many might have expected. Something that I think Remedy Entertainment and Rockstar Games are ready to push once more by doing a full remake now. A remake for both Max Payne 1 & 2 for the PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. There is no word on if this will be combining the two titles into one big title or if each will be getting a full remake to retell and expand on what we all loved from the IP before. Even if some of the mechanics have become a bit of a trope in many video games ever since.

There is not much else to go on for these new Max Payne announcements as it is all still in the concepts phase. This means we can just keep speculating and trying to think about what we will be getting. Given that it is going next-gen only and using the Northlight game engine, we can make the assumption that it will be pushing boundaries on the graphical side of things. It also looks like they are going to lean further into the bullet-time aspect of Max Payne from before, so maybe it will change up what the industries have been putting out there or just lean into it all a bit more. Maybe we will not have to wait much longer to get anything beyond the announcement here.

Remedy Entertainment Enters Agreement With Rockstar Games For New Max Payne 1 & 2 Project

Remedy Entertainment, the creators of Max Payne, are pleased to announce that they will remake the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne video games in a new development agreement with Rockstar Games.

The relationship between Remedy and Rockstar Games dates back to the original release of the critically acclaimed Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne games, developed by Remedy and published by Rockstar Games. Both games left an indelible mark in popular culture, lauded for their neo-noir atmosphere, groundbreaking storytelling, and “bullet-time” gunplay.

Under the development agreement signed today, Remedy will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S using its proprietary Northlight game engine. The game’s development budget will be financed by Rockstar Games, the size of which will be in line with a typical Remedy AAA-game production. Under the agreement, Remedy has a royalty opportunity after Rockstar Games has recouped its development, marketing, and other costs for distributing and publishing the game.

The project is currently in the concept development stage.

Have you been hoping to get a new Max Payne title out there or will you settle with the remakes we are getting? Do you think they will combine the two titles into one or will it be two different remakes we are getting? How do you think they will push the industry forward or will this be a way to capitalize on the IP and not give anything truly new? Tell us all of your thoughts down in the comments and then feel free to discuss it all as you so wish. When more for the Max Payne remakes is out there, know we will share it all with you here. Just be sure to keep an eye out there for all of that and much more.
