The Mechanical Apartheid Of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Has Begun

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

A new live action trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has been released and perfectly shows off how the events of Deus Ex: Human Revolution has changed the world

August 23rd is still a bit out for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided so it is a bit acceptable that we are not getting loads of gameplay video and/or features revealed to us. I have a feeling that will come at E3 where Square Enix already has plans to show things off. Instead we get things like this live action trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided that aims to show us what the world has become after the events of Eidos-Montreal‘s previous addition into the franchise. We all love live action trailers for video games now don’t we?

I’m going to leave it here for now just so you can have a look at what we have for Deus Ex here. Of course I’ll have my opinions on this but I’ll let you head on in blind to get your own feel for what is going on in the fluff video here. That is all live action videos usually are after all.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided — The Mechanical Apartheid

In 2027, mechanically-augmented people all over the world suffered from extreme psychotic delusions, lost control of themselves, and started attacking people. Millions died. Hundreds of thousands more were injured and maimed. In the wake of this global catastrophe, society has become divided by hatred, prejudice, and fear, with many countries now enacting harsh laws. The most notable of these laws is the highly controversial “Human Restoration Act”, aimed at isolating “Augs” and keeping them away from “Naturals”.

It pains me to say this but I think that this video kind of hits the nail on the head as it was supposed to. The story of the world where Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has progressed to is supposed to be a tragic one that we’ve already lived through in the real world. The fear and all of the negative things that comes with being the theme. When using video game characters it just doesn’t come through as well; at least it hasn’t for me yet. Here with the live actors things kind of hit home a bit more doesn’t it? It feels a lot “more real” when all is said and done.

I think this shows off the mentality of the game’s world much better than we are going to see in the game directly. I am sure that Eidos-Montreal is going to paint a nice picture during the narratives and gameplay but for most of us this is going to be just a random set of violence we need to progress through and not see the real undertones being laid out there. For once a live action trailer has sold a game and now my hype for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has increased beyond where it was before. I just hope the rest of this translates over to the game characters as well.

What do you think about this trailer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided? Do you think it sets a better tone for the game’s world and story than we have seen before? Do you agree that it hits a bit harder to see live actors going through the scenes than it will be seeing random polygons doing the same thing? Let us know what you think in the comments below and discuss. As we get more for Mankind Divided we will have it up here for you. Keep checking back into the site to make sure you see it all.
