Mortal Kombat 1
Even more Mortal Kombat characters are back in action and ready to rule things again in Mortal Kombat 1 yet again
There is now less than a month left before we have Mortal Kombat 1 on our PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, and PC with September 19th looming closer. You probably already knew all of that as NetherRealm Studios has hammered that home since the original announcement. What we did not know, and was shown off during Gamescom 2023, is that we are going to see more of the original power players of Mortal Kombat back in the mix and doing all manner of terrible things again. Even if the story should have meant that Fire God Liu Kang should have made it not a thing. Story has to story so we can get some good gameplay though.
All of that aside, here we go with four more characters coming in for Mortal Kombat 1 again. As it comes to the fighters, we have General Shao, Sindel, and Raiden in the mix. All with Motaro getting properly shown off as a Kameo fighter. All with the same twists to things you should be expecting at this point. Sindel is the leader of Outworld, Shao Kahn is the leading general, and now Raiden is Earth’s best champion to enter Mortal Kombat. Even though it is shown that Earthrealm and Outworld are able to live in peace already. This is where things seem to fall apart for me in the story since Liu Kang could just have made that not be a thing in the new universe he has created.

I do find it a little odd that Raiden is stated as being the best fighter for this year’s Mortal Kombat because he has mastered all of the best things of humans, but last I checked, humans could not fly or use lightning as they wish. That or teleport, so it is a little odd to get that explanation but still have Raiden fighting close to how we have seen him fight since the original title out there. Maybe these are all things that he picks up during the course of the story in Mortal Kombat 1, but it just seems off to me. Well, outside of just having another classic fighter in the game and ignoring the story logic to make sure Raiden is worth having out there.
I will say, that I am a fan of seeing Shao Kahn brought back down to a heavy hitter with a little magic in the mix for this Mortal Kombat. It feels as if the character is not going to just feel overpowered in the game and with a good reason behind not being an end-boss level fighter. Sindel looks and feels as classic as possible, and I am curious to see why she has gone down the darker path in this timeline. Then there is Motaro and the ability to reflect back the opponent’s projectile attacks. That should shake a whole lot of things up for those Mortal Kombat players that just like to spam the fireball attacks out there. Even if I would have loved to see the character in a full form instead.
What are the reasons you think that Mortal Kombat still has to happen in the utopia that Liu Kang claims to have made? Why do you think Raiden will get all of the superpowers again or will that need to be ignored just for the sake of gameplay balance? Will we see any other characters show up as full fighters before launch or will they get added in as DLC down the line? Head down to the comment section to discuss all of that and everything else we saw today. We will have a little more for Mortal Kombat 1 here soon, so please keep on checking in for all of those updates and everything else we can offer up for the IP.
