The Tetris Effect Is Going To Be Much More Than Syndrome Soon

Tetris Effect

A new VR title is coming with Tetris Effect and Tetris Effect looks to turn the core gameplay into a 3D, immersive experience

The first of the PrE3 announcements that we were promised by Son is here and it all starts off with Tetris Effect. A new title coming from Enhance Experience and looking to take this “effect” and bring it to us all in a new way on the PS4 and PSVR. That is right, Tetris Effect will have PSVR support included in at launch and we can play this traditionally 2D game in a full 3D environment. As if we did not have enough to already worry about with the dropping of blocks and clearing of lines. Unless this all goes the path of just having a 3D world but still only worry about the 2D dropping of things.

Anyways, Tetris Effect has been announced and it comes with a trailer that does not show off much of anything. I would like to think that what we see here is a bit of gameplay from the game, but it is mostly just an eye orgy of colors and shapes with a bit of the standard Tetris gameplay mixed in near the end. I say that this could be part of the gameplay as even in the standard view of the game, we will have all sorts of music, effects, and other items floating around in the 30 different “stages” we will have and the different modes coming back and getting introduced with the game. So far, the modes announced are Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra.

Have a look at the basic tease and announcement we have for Tetris Effect here and get ready to see more out of E3. Given that this was one of the titles they are announcing and showing before the big day next week, I have a feeling we will see more of it on the show floor. At least that is the hope as it would be interesting to see how Tetris plays in the VR setting. I guess we will see.

Tetris Effect — Announce Trailer

From Tetsuya Mizuguchi and the same people who brought you the award-winning Rez Infinite and Lumines comes the new PS4 game Tetris Effect.

Named after a real-world phenomenon where players’ brains are so engrossed that images of the iconic falling Tetrimino blocks (i.e. the Tetris playing pieces) linger in their vision, thoughts, and even dreams, Tetris Effect amplifies this magical feeling of total immersion by surrounding you with fantastic, fully three-dimensional worlds that react and evolve based on how you play. Music, backgrounds, sounds, special effects—everything, down to the Tetris pieces themselves, pulse, dance, shimmer, and explode in perfect sync with how you’re playing.

From deep beneath the ocean to the furthest reaches of outer space and everywhere between, Tetris Effect’s 30-plus stages take players on a wondrous, emotional journey through the universe. The core of the game is still Tetris — one of the most popular puzzle games of all time — but like you’ve never seen it, or heard it, or felt it before.

Whether in full HD on a standard display and PS4, or in razor-sharp 4K resolution with a PS4 Pro, or in fully-immersive 3D via the optional PS VR support, Tetris Effect’s gorgeous imagery, evocative sounds, and super-addictive gameplay add up to an unforgettable experience…and that’s literally unforgettable, as the game’s name implies.

Game Features:

  • Includes the all-new “Zone” mechanic, where players can stop time (and Tetriminos falling) by entering “the Zone” and either get out of a sticky situation that could otherwise lead to “Game Over,” or rack up extra line clears for bonus rewards.
  • Over 30 different stages, each with its own music, sound effects, graphical style and background that all evolve and change as you play through them.
  • Fully playable on either a standard display (up to 4K and 60fps on a PS4 Pro), or optionally in mind-blowing 3D on PS VR.
  • Fan-favorite modes like Marathon, Sprint, and Ultra, with more all-new modes and other features to be revealed before launch.
  • A player grading and leveling system as well as variable difficulty to encourage and reward replayability.

A challenge for the mind and a feast for all the senses, Tetris Effect is the perfect excuse to play Tetris again… and again… and again, and again, and again and again and again and again and again and again and…

What do you think about Tetris Effect as it all stands here? How do you think things will differ between the 3D and 2D gameplay that we can look forward to? Let us all know down in the comments and then feel free to discuss. When we learn more about Tetris Effect, you will learn more. Just stick close to the site here to be able to see and hear all of the updates we will have to offer.
