Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
At E3 Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus was fully revealed to the world but there was so much more to Wolfenstein II than could be covered in one sitting
If you were paying attention out at E3 this year then you already know that Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus has been officially announced and also coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on October 27th this year. It really is starting to seem like Bethesda has their things on lock over there with keeping titles as hard rumors until their big event and then drop it on us all that it is coming this year. It’s happened a few times now and here we go again with Machine Games‘ latest in Wolfenstein II. A lot of posturing here of course, but let’s skip that now and dive right into what you may or may not have seen for the game during the big event a short while ago.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is a direct sequel to the last reboot to the franchise and the expansion that came after it all. We are no in the streets of America and the small win that we had over the Nazi in the last game didn’t seem to do much from keeping them from doing all kinds of horrible things in “The Land Of The Free.” In fact, if you watch the big reveal a bit more you can see that in Wolfenstein II there won’t only be the hate and violence from the Nazi we have to worry about, but also all of the other racism and events that happened in the country in the 1960s. 1961 if you need the exact year to know when we are diving into this alternate timeline of world history.
Have a look and then we’ll dive a bit more in Wolfenstein II more after you are fully up on all of the reveals and basics that will be coming to the game. It is a nice long video and not some thirty-second long teaser of a thing, so get ready for a nice reveal here.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus — E3 2017 Full Reveal
An exhilarating adventure brought to life by the industry-leading id Tech 6, Wolfenstein II sends players to Nazi-controlled America on a mission to recruit the boldest resistance leaders left. Fight the Nazis in iconic locations such as small-town Roswell, New Mexico, the flooded streets of New Orleans, and a post-nuclear Manhattan. Equip an arsenal of badass guns, and unleash new abilities to blast your way through legions of advanced Nazi soldiers, cyborgs, and über soldiers in this definitive first-person shooter.
America, 1961. Your assassination of Nazi General Deathshead was a short-lived victory. Despite the setback, the Nazis maintain their stranglehold on the world. You are BJ Blazkowicz, aka “Terror-Billy,” member of the Resistance, scourge of the Nazi empire, and humanity’s last hope for liberty. Only you have the guts, guns, and gumption to return stateside, kill every Nazi in sight, and spark the second American Revolution.
Yes, BJ is about to be a father here in Wolfenstein II. It may be twins, but either way he does have more than just freedom to fight for in The New Colossus. It also looks as if all of the technology and enemies have received an update and upgrade over the last stint of time and the “future tech” in a less modern world is going to be even more explosive and deadly for all. It even looks like we may get to override and use more of it in our own fight when we are not worried about surviving what is being thrown at us in Wolfenstein II. My guess would be that it will be very specific parts of the game and not whenever we bring down a robot or mech.
Another new feature that looks to be coming to Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is that not only will we still be able to dual-wield firearms in the game, but this time we won’t be required to dual-wield the same weapon at the same time. We could have a shotgun in one hand and a long ranged silenced weapon in the other to we don’t have to act too frantic when the “stealth” version of the game we want to play gets derailed. Of course, if it does then we can dive right into the run and gun style of play that Wolfenstein has always been known for over the years. I won’t complain there at all and am looking forward to all of that.
Another addition to the “stealth” gameplay for Wolfenstein II is a new hatchet style weapon in the mix. I am not sure if this replaces the usual knife in the game, but it does bring us a lot more ways to bring down and take apart some of those horrible Nazis in the game. Something we will constantly be urged to do here as the “stealth” play isn’t to get past them all and leave anyone alive, but more to kill them one by one without needing to go back to the dual-wielding gun-play of Wolfenstein II that we are being shown here. None the less, it all look amazing and I can’t wait until October 27th to finally get my hands on it all.
