Time To Build Our Way Into New Worlds With LEGO Dimensions

LEGO Dimensions

TT Games and Warner Bros. have announced LEGO Dimensions which is another title that mixes real toys with digital worlds

Just in case you didn’t have enough clutter around with Disney Infinity and Skylanders it looks like we are getting another toy-to-game mash-up with LEGO Dimensions. This would be the next new LEGO title coming from TT Games and Warner Bros.; at least if you forget about that LEGO Jurassic World title on its way as well. None the less we are getting LEGO Dimensions but the cool thing here is that the developers have taken a few great steps to separate this title from all of the other titles out there as you get to actually build the toys you will be sending into the game. At least that is how all of this looks.

On top of that, LEGO Dimensions will be a huge mash-up of all of the LEGO IPs that have come out over the years with a whole bunch of others in the mix. As of right now the properties that will have content to start with for LEGO Dimensions are DC Comics, The Lord of the Rings, The LEGO Movie, The Wizard of Oz, LEGO Ninjago, Back to the Future, and more as the game can be as ever expansive as they want to churn out blocks and toys for. To sound a bit cliché here, “Your imagination will be your only limit.” That and whatever the coders want to actually put into LEGO Dimensions for us all to experience. Because, you know, video games and all.

LEGO Dimensions is currently slated to release on September 29th for the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Wii U. The basic starter will come with the “LEGO Toy Pad,” the thing to send the real world versions into LEGO Dimensions, the blocks to make it look as cool as the above trailer, a LEGO Batman minifigure, a LEGO Gandalf minifigure, a Wyldstyle minifigure, and a LEGO Batmobile. All of course subject to change but that is what we are all being told at this time. Pretty much the standard as all of the other games like LEGO Dimensions so nothing too surprising. I think it will be the expansions that will keep the game every changing and engaging though.

A small sample of packs available in 2015 include the Back to the Future Level Pack with a LEGO Marty McFly minifigure, a LEGO Ninjago Team Pack with Kai and Cole minifigures, three Ninjago Fun Packs with Jay, Nya and Zane minifigures, two DC Comics Fun Packs with Wonder Woman and Cyborg minifigures, three The Lord of the Rings Fun Packs with LEGO Gollum, LEGO Gimli and LEGO Legolas minifigures, four The LEGO Movie Fun packs with Emmet, Bad Cop, Benny and Unikitty characters, and a The Wizard of Oz Fun Pack with a LEGO Wicked Witch of the West minifigure. Additional packs to round out the 2015 assortment will be announced in the months leading to launch. Further waves of expansion packs will be released regularly following the launch of the game and into 2016.

I know I am sold on the concept of LEGO Dimensions. I just hope that the final product does great things for the toy-to-game model that seems to be all the rage for younger gamers out there. I do wish that they would have used the McFarlane building block sets instead of the basic LEGO ones but then LEGO Dimensions would most likely be more of a grown up gamer’s game now wouldn’t it? None the less, what do you think of LEGO Dimensions? Are we being saturated with these nickel and dime games? Do you find the concept as fun as the kiddies? Let us know down in the comments.
