Where Dolls Hang
See just how Where Dolls Hang will creep us all out through the environmental storytelling during Where Dolls Hang
Not only are we going to have real movies hidden in the world of Where Dolls Hang that we’ll have to keep our eyes open for, but now it seems that Steelkrill Studio is going one step further with what we’ll have to watch for. Not in the way of hidden things from the real world that will be hidden in the game based on the real-world location. More of how the story is going to unfold out there in Where Dolls Hang, with the setting and environment helping to tell the story of why we are out there and what is going on with the horrors we’re seeing. As if an island of doll heads and mannequins wasn’t enough already. That all said, let’s have a look at the world that is being built for the game in a new teaser as we wait for the full title to land on the PC. A perfect way to start the Halloween season around here.
In addition to having the world of Where Dolls Hang helping to tell the story of the events, we’ll also have to use our camera to collect photographs while wandering around this weird island in South America. This will be part of the core gameplay, as we record evidence and clues to the darkness that is all over the land. Also, I feel we’ll need to have all of these answers if we ever want to get away from Where Dolls Hang and back to civilization. At least in terms of the game’s story. We’ll always have the option to just turn things off and move along in our day if we so choose. A good thing to be able to do, given how immersive they’re trying to make the game to pull us all in deeper to the story of it all. Have a look at the latest little teaser that we have for the game just a bit further down the page here. The creep levels do keep on rising, and I have a feeling it is going to be an insane ride for all who want to take it when the game does finally release in its full form.
Where Dolls Hang — Environmental Storytelling
The newly revealed trailer provides a closer look at the environments players will explore throughout Where Dolls Hang, from dense forests filled with hanging dolls to deteriorating interiors where unsettling discoveries await.
The game places a strong emphasis on environmental storytelling, psychological tension, and the fear of the unknown.
Dolls and mannequins are scattered throughout the environment, but not everything remains where it was last seen. Some dolls watch the player, while others may move or change when nobody is looking.
Investigation Meets Psychological Survival Horror
In Where Dolls Hang, players must search for clues, examine unsettling scenes, record evidence, and piece together fragments of a story hidden throughout the environment.
Equipped with a camera, players will encounter increasingly unnatural situations as they venture deeper into the forest and abandoned interiors.
Bringing Real Photographs Into a Fictional Nightmare
One of the game’s more unusual features is its integration of real-world photography into the fictional environment.
Several dolls and objects appearing throughout Where Dolls Hang have been recreated as 3D models based on real photographs. Some of the originals can also be found in the game for players to discover.
This allows players to encounter a disturbing object in the game before potentially finding the real photograph that inspired its creation, further crossing the boundary between fiction and reality. The game also features discoverable VHS tapes containing real classic films such as “Night of the Living Dead”. These tapes can be inserted into televisions and watched directly within the game world, providing an additional layer of immersion.
Of course, whatever might be lurking inside the house won’t necessarily wait for the movie to finish … so you have to be careful if you think you can enjoy a movie in peace.
Were you already worried that you’d have to look out for too much in Where Dolls Hang before now? Will there be a truly deep story to all of this creepiness in the game, or will it just be a scary walking simulation instead? How hard is it going to be to find all of the hidden things in the game’s world? Will we need to solve some major thing in the story so we can escape this area and head on home? Let’s discuss all of that and more down in the comment section of the page here. We’ll see what else we can find for Where Dolls Hang as the team keeps on developing it all.
