My Friendly Neighborhood
The Neighborhood is about to come for us with the release date set for My Friendly Neighborhood
We have had some fun with the demos and teases out there for My Friendly Neighborhood, and now out of the PC Gaming Show, we have a release date for the game. Even if it feels like a good horror game should always wait until October to drop out there, DreadXP is just ready to give us all the game. Not instantly, but as of now, My Friendly Neighborhood will be hitting the PC on July 18th so we can roll onto the set and make sure these puppets do not cause any more harm. Even if it looks like most of the harm is going to be located just on the soundstage of the show it is based around. That could, obviously, change or we would have little reason to walk into the game as we do. Beyond wanting to see what new horrors the developer is cooking up.
While it is awesome to know we can be playing My Friendly Neighborhood in just about a month, there does happen to be a solid portion of the gaming crowd out there that will be missing out. That is, on the July date since this release date also comes along with word that the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S gamers will have a chance to play the game too. There is no specific date on when this is going to be, but there is word that My Friendly Neighborhood will be coming to consoles down the line. Maybe we will even get to see the Sparky demo out there to tease it all a bit more too. Although, that could be a bit much for the smaller teams we have put all of this together for now. Weirder things have happened, so there is no reason to give up all hope for now. Just do not put any money on it happening is all I am saying.
Now, for those that are interested in My Friendly Neighborhood but still have little to go on, here we have one more trailer for the game to get us all hyped up. One that digs a bit more into the story of it all and why we are heading into the studio to face off with some killer puppets on a soundstage. It looks like they came to life and are broadcasting a signal out there into the world. We are called in to handle this weirdness only to find out that the characters of The Friendly Neighborhood show are out for blood. My guess is that they will cut off outside contact too, so we will have to find all of our gear and guns to fight them off until we can escape and do what finally needs to be done. Most likely with one of those “dead kid” stories in the mix that these indie games usually tag in too. We will see soon, though.
My Friendly Neighborhood — Release Date
Renowned indie horror publisher DreadXP burst with joy as it announced at the PC Gaming Show the release date for its puppet-filled survival horror game, My Friendly Neighborhood! This gosh darn spooky game releases on July 18, 2023, for Windows PC, but that’s not all; My Friendly Neighborhood will also release on PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, and Series S|X at a later date.
My Friendly Neighborhood puts you into the work boots of Gordon, a repairman tasked with shutting down the sudden broadcast of a canceled children’s TV show titled The Friendly Neighborhood. Back in the day, the loveable show lit up TV screens and the smiling faces of children all across the world. Fans loved its colorful cast of kooky puppets that took them on educational adventures and delighted them with fun games. But the show’s popularity waned over time, and the studio had to ultimately shut its doors. Now the show’s characters are back on the air for an encore… wait, are they eating each other!?
Featuring a mix of action and adventure, My Friendly Neighborhood is the perfect game for horror fans looking for solid and surprising scares rather than gore. Sure, there might not be any dead bodies, dismemberment, or decapitations, but don’t expect your new puppet pals to stay down for good. They demand hugs — intense, painful hugs.
My Friendly Neighborhood Key Features:
- Friends Or Foe-zz?: Meet and greet a colorful cast of puppet friends turned adversaries (and maybe turned friends again!)
- Follow Directions: Non-linear, survival horror gameplay. Make sure to check your map!
- Toys & Stuff: Arm yourself with unique weapons like the Rolodexer. Do you know your ABCs? You better — it’s your ammo
- Brain Teasers: Solve an array of puzzles in the vein of the survival horror greats
- Lots Of Playspace: Experience a multitude of diverse environments, from the “BTS” Ray’s Workshop to Cardboard Crayon Halls
- Don’t Be Messy: Enjoy a grid-based real-time inventory, ‘cause that’s just way better
Cynicism aside, I have been interested in My Friendly Neighborhood since I first caught wind of it all. even if some of the metastory for these games is a little convoluted, it is an interesting take on some of the happier things most of us attribute to our childhoods. This one is obviously using Sesame Street as a bit of inspiration and how horrible some of those characters would actually be when placed in a modern light. All to challenge our nostalgic perceptions and see what other horrors we missed in life. I may be reading a bit more into My Friendly Neighborhood, though, but that is how I will be going in to experience this game when it lands on July 18th. That or later on when it hits the consoles. I do like to play more on those than I do on my PC.
Are you excited to see what other darkness we will have in My Friendly Neighborhood or will it be a title you are skipping on? Is this a darker take on what everyone normally thinks is a happy thing for kids or will it just “ruin” childhoods as everyone likes to proclaim? When do you think it will hit the consoles and could we see the Sparky demo in the mix along with it all? Head down to the comment section and discuss it all as you so want to do. There should be more for My Friendly Neighborhood in the coming weeks and you can bet we will have it here as we are allowed to share. Please keep checking back for all of those updates and everything else that we can offer up to the world during this time.
